TrackIR 5 "No device detected"

Just got a new TrackIR 5.

1. Installed software, (tried both versions, 4 and 5 beta)
2. ran software
3. plugged TrackIR 5 into USB port
4. "No device detected" message, no light.

Tried different sequences; installing and uninstalling software, plugging - unplugging USB. The TrackIR 5 light never turns on or the PC detects anything.

Windows Device manager wont detect the TrackIR 5 nor the clip, USB port works OK.

USB 2.0
Vista 64

Quite a similar problem here.
Track IR works for a few minutes an then the green lights go out.
End of the show until I replug the device in my USB port (2.0)
then it works for a minute or so and the lights turn off again...


I tried 3 or 4 different software versions!
My PC runs on WinXP with service pack III.
Software install runs without problems and my system always detects the track IR when I first plug it in after software install and reboot.

I tried all my different USB ports.

Please help me, I am desperate!

So no listing for unknown device in the device maanger?

No yellow exclamation marks?

Are you plugging directly into the PC, or thru a hub?

Laptop/desktop system?

Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?

In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Root Hub"(s), that show, and then select properties. On the power management tab, uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the USB port to save power (i.e. uncheck the box). Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

Latest motherboard bios, usb drivers installed?

Problem solved!

My Headtracker obviously had a sort of hardware malfunction.
I sent it back to the retailer and got a replacement within 2 days.
Now everything is up and running smoothly.

Great piece of hardware!
