TrackIR3 with TrackIR4.x Software will not start.

I have a TrackIR3 and recently the software for this device would not start (WinXP) - at all. Not just a long load time as per some of the other forum posters, it will not start.

The TrackIR.exe appears in the Task Manager process list.

I have uninstalled & reinstalled the the latest and previous versions of the TrackIR software.

I have run the NP Registry fix on the off chance, without success.

With the latest 4.x software on a laptop the TrackIR worked fine, so it's unlikely to be a hardware problem.

Any assistance at this stage would be greatly appreciated as I don't enjoy using FSX without head tracking and I have not flown since the problem started.

In the following folder location, C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint\TrackIR4\Profiles, what is the file size for each profile?

Hi Vincent,

The files in the profile folder are all 2KB. The folder contains:

Combat Flight.xml 2KB
Flight.xml 2KB
Racing.xml 2KB

There are no hidden files.

OK, it is missing a profile, and that could be what is causing it to hang.

You should do a clean install.

Remove the TrackIR software by doing the following:

a. Click "Start"

b. Click on the "Control Panel"

c. Click "Add/Remove Programs"

d. Find "TrackIR" and click "Change/Remove"

e. Once launched it will give the option to completely remove it.

f. Delete the NaturalPoint folder at the following location, C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint

g. Download and reinstall the software from the following location,

Hi Vincent,

I followed your instructions, but without success. The profile files created by the install are the same as the ones listed above. The program will run and appear in the process list, though it will not start to the point where I can see the interface/window. I assume the TrackIR software will create a profile called "default" when the software runs properly for the first time or when the profile has been deleted. As this was the only difference from a fresh install on a family member's PC.

Borrowing a "default.xml" file did not help!!

Is the trackIR plugged into the PC, when you try to start the software?

So when you did the clean install (uninstall, folder deletion, reinstall with the latest software only) the default profile did not install on it's own?

That is correct. The TrackIR has been connected to the PC prior to running the program. Windows will identify the TrackIR and install the required drivers when I connect it or change USB ports.
During a clean install of the TrackIR software, the profiles created are the three listed above - without the default.xlm.

Very odd, as a clean install, of the 4.1.037 software should create 4 profiles, in the profile folder.

I'm have uninstalled the software and performed a registry clean. I have also removed the CH products manager and any other programs that I though may have some impact. I will now search for & delete every last file containing the TrackIR or Natural Point info. Fingers crossed for a clean install after that.

Update 1: I have surgically removed the rest of the TrackIR software from C: Drive and the Registry. The reinstall did create FOUR profiles, though still no luck with getting the software to run. Getting frustrated now.

Update 2: I cannot enter the game controllers control panel to check on the other gaming devices. WinXP Pro
