A/V synch

Post by naveda »

Dear All,

A/V video recording from a DV camera works ok. The "save as" option does not work, but the video can be found in the project folder. After some video processing (color and pixel aspect) everything works.

However, the FAQ explanation about A/V is not sufficiently clear to uncover the the synchronization issues between audio and video in the DV video. I have been noticed a delay between audio and video (~300+-100 ms). Some VERY important questions:

Is the delay constant if you use the same devices?
What means " the start offset must be synced manually upon playback" ? Does it means that I have to rely in external cues to proceed with A/V synch (e.g. watch the video, hear the sound and try to synch) ?
Is there any objective way to know this delay or make a useful synch between audio and mocap recordings?

All the best

Currently there is no really good way to sync audio in the current system. In the new system we have timecode input, but we haven't finished the software that goes with it. One trick our users came up with is to use a clapper, put 3 markers on it, and the clap it, you can hear the sound in audio and you can watch the markers to see the point where the clapper shuts, and that is the sync point.
