No lights. Software crashes on startup

Nothing works at all. Lights do not come on, software crashes on start up.

I have tried all the normal driver workarounds, deleting all drivers connecting in different order, uninstall, usb power options etc.

The device is recognised by the system and the drivers appear to be installed correctly. I have also tried in different usb ports with no luck.

Interestingly sometimes I get a message saying this device could be running faster, but not always. It is def. USB2.0 hardware and all my other usb devices work with no problem.

Any ideas.

Hardware: Quad core, 4gb, Asus P5-D

I have managed to get the darn thing working by installing the older software version 4.

There is certainly something wrong with version 5 of the software under Win7 64bit, strange because it worked fine before I upgraged to Win7.

Did it crash with the hardware unplugged as well?

Have you installed the latest video card drivers fror the system?

I have the latest drivers for all my devices including motherboard (P5N-D) and video card (8800GTX).

Installing TrackIR4 I get full functionality.

Strangely re-installing TrackIR5 I can now (intermittently) get the UI to show briefly before crashing indicating it might be a GFX problem, perhaps some old OpenGL calls that are handled dif. in W7/latest nvidia drivers.

Looking in the TIR log file indicates the last thing it was doing was Initializing the UI.

It is a shame because the v5 software is an improvement.

Just wanted to update to say TrackIR 5 is now working.

I had a separate issue with not being able to copy large numbers of files from my USB drive and it turns out to be an nVidia USB driver issue related to the ability to map more than 3gb of RAM on 64bit machines.

Microsoft released a hotfix which I applied and now TrackIR 5 works. I do not know if they are directly related but thought I should post here in case others have similar weird issues with x64 compatibility.
