Once again I've uninstalled s/w v 5.0b, cleaned all registery entries, rebooted & went back & installed 4.1.037 and I still get a non startup condition?? Clicking on the IRTrack logo on my desktop does nothing. I keep getting the same error message that it has to close & send a report to MS. get a Dr.Watson message. Here is a copy of the install log created when installing above version....

Just can't get either s/w version to work. At least 5.0b gives me a opening screen. 4.0.xx gives me nothing. So now I'll go back to v5.0b
IR5 Installed anbut keeps crashing?
Re: IR5 Installed anbut keeps crashing?
Have you tried using the final version of the 5.0 software?
5.0 Final b?
This does occur, if you don't run the TrackIR software?
Do you still see the TrackIR 4 folder installed?

Re: IR5 Installed anbut keeps crashing?
Hello I have just purchased the TrackIR 5 and the software crashes on startup, just as described in this thread.
The first time I installed (the latest SW), it crashed. Then I reinstalled it seemed to work for a while, but then crashed. Then I reinstalled, got to play one night (Falcon 4 AF), tried the night after and it crashed on open regularly.
So I went to this forum and learned about the directX. I installed the latest, tried again, and it still crashes.
I see that you suggest to install older versions of the trackIR software, but I am hesitant because I wonder:
- how to unistall properly
- which is THE reference trackIR software version?
My config is an ASUS F3JP laptop:
Duo T7200 2GHz
RAM 2GB
Windows XP Pro
ATI X1700 256 MB dedicated
Could you please help me with this? I have no idea of what it could be, never had any installation problem whatsoever on this computer.
Thx

Re: IR5 Installed anbut keeps crashing?
I don't know if this will help NaturalPoint track down the crashes or not for the folks experiencing them, but on my end I can cause TIR to crash at will just by uninstalling it and then reinstalling to a location *other* than Program Files (x86) on Vista64. This is using v5.0b final with TIR5 hardware with TCP. DX9.0c, nVidia 9800GT 1GB (driver v182.50).
I found this out last night when I uninstalled and reinstalled outside the Program Files (x86) folder to try and prevent the process from staying in my task manager when I exited the TIR program. So I decided to try and install it to another location, C:\Utilities\NaturalPoint\TrackIR5, and once I did that, the application would start up, and the 'not responding, windows is searching for a problem...' message would come up (the 3d view never finished loading.) Once I uninstalled again, and then reinstalled back to the Program Files (x86) 'default installation' folder, and the program works fine again.
Naturally, I doubt this is the situation for many of you, as you probably already have it installed to the default location, I'm just hoping this may help NaturalPoint to encounter the crashes at will, to possibly find a fix.

DB93 - Have you tried updating to the latest Nvidia drivers (195.62)
Highalpha - Do you have the latest ATI drivers installed on your system?

Re: IR5 Installed anbut keeps crashing?
Hi Vincent,
I use the 182.50's as they've been the best, most stable drivers for FSX on my hardware. As I said, the TrackIR software doesn't crash as long as I have it installed to the default location, but it won't finish starting up without a crash if installed elsewhere. This isn't really an issue for me, as I'm running it from the default installation folder now, but I thought I'd pass the info along in case it would be helpful in replicating crashes on your end to possibly help you guys find at least a possible source for the crashes for the folks who can't get the software to run at all. It all works great on my end, just as long as it's installed to the default folder.
Just wanted to clarify that, as my post wasn't a request for help, but was posted in the hopes it may help you folks track down the crashes for others.
