Getting back into IL2

Post by Doug Donnell »

My search efforts were not very effective, my apologies in advance.
I just purchased a new PC after 6 years, and I am trying to get my Sims back up and running. I recall going through some of these issues back in the dark ages but can not recall how to do it now...
Here is the problem, I have installed IL2 Forgotten Battles, installed the 2 last patches, and have the sim working.
My TrIR is a 3 Pro (at least I am pretty sure it is...). No vector upgrade. Before installing the TRIR I downloaded what I decided (correctly?)was the last compatible softward from the TrIR websight, Version 4.1 Build 37. My OS is Windows 7 Home.
The TrIR is recognized, its tracking, and I have the "combat flight" profile loaded. My old software had a specific profile I used, but I can not recall if I created it (or how), or if that is no longer necessary with the newer software.
My issue is that the tracking in game is choppy at best, freezes at the extremes, and will only track forward of the 9 oclock/3 oclock line (no ability to look over the shoulder).
Is this a TrIR issue, or is it an IL2 issue?
I hope there is an "oh, all you need to do is..." solution to this since as a technophobic middle aged impatient banker I am ill equipped to dig into a complex solution.
Any help would be appreciated!

Within the Tracking software, in the camera view, do you have the tracking point centered?

Do you get full range odf motion in the TrackIR software?

Yes, when confirming the track dot is being picked up using the tracking screen in the software, I do have the centering function, and I do get the full range of motion... On my old PC I had a specific profile for IL2, but I don't know if it was a canned profile I downloaded or one I put together, and then promptly forgot how... If the "factory" combat flight profile replaces that, then my problem may be with my flight simulator's set up, not TrIR. Thoughts?

Just trying to track down all the various issues, I miss the flight sim and really want to try to get back into it.

Ok, scratch that last... Today I am only getting a limited range of motion. Tracking is working, centering is working, but I can only get the track to move within a small circle of the tracking screen even with extreme head movements.

I don't think I am loading the profiles for my particular game and I can not figure out how to do that?

The profile autoloads, when it detects the gaming application starting. It then loads the profile listed next to the application title, on the profiles tab.

Is the TrackIR movement working OK, within the TrackIR software itself?

Properly, but incompletely. My head motion only gets me tracking movement within a circular area making up about 1/2 of the total tracking screen. In my previous install I got motion out to the edges of the tracking screen. Directionality is correct, centering works, but I am getting incomplete range of motion.
In game, the tracking frequently "locks" at the extremes of the range and will not unlock, or I only get views forward of the 9 oclock to 3 oclock line (forward 180 degree hemisphere).
Vincent, if you can help I would greatly appreciate it. I miss the flight sim experience and frankly one of the reasons I purchased the new PC was to finally experience the game at something above "minimum" levels...
Help!

Is the Tracking point centered within the camera view itself?

As you move your head arround, is the tracking point being lost, on the camera view?

What are you using for a tracking point, the reflective dot (small/large) or the reflective hat?

The point is centered in the camera view. I am using the hat, and I am not losing the dot on the tracking screen, it is just limited in its range.

Have you tried adjusting the profile axis speeds?
