SmartNav and Dragon NaturallySpeaking

Post by emilyp »

Is there a way to use SmartNav and Dragon NaturallySpeaking together to drag and click the mouse? I am a Dragon NaturallySpeaking user and find that Dragon NaturallySpeaking's options to drag and click don't perform that well and, imo, its drag and click capabilities are not very user-friendly. Is there a way to use SmartNav to drag and use NaturallySpeaking to click? Perhaps it is possible to write a macro? I don't want to use SmartNav's auto click feature because it runs into other problems and I know that it is problematic to try to use Windows' built-in speech dictation capabilities while using Dragon. An example of what I want to do would be to drag the mouse to widen a column in Excel.

You could use the SmartNAv to drag the cursor, around the screen, and have Dragon do the clicking.

Yes, that's what I want to do. I want to press and hold the mouse button, drag the mouse to a certain place on the screen, and then click. However, if I press and hold the mouse button with Dragon and then try to drag the mouse around with Natural Point, the mouse hold releases when I start moving the cursor with Natural Point.

Is there a setting within dragon, for overriding movement settings?

There is an add-on for Dragon NaturallySpeaking called the hippocampus mouse grid that may help you.

This might have worked in 2006 ... but in 2010 the download link is broken. A pity. It looked like a good option to get vocal mouse button control working together with SmartNav and Dragon naturally speaking.

Does anyone know where the Hippocampus MouseGrid software can be obtained now?

A related post to the above question: How can I get SmartNav and Dragon NaturallySpeaking working together with a vocal mouse button control? Options:

1. Find a way of getting Hippocampus MouseGrid software installed and running, as above. Any advice, anyone ...?

2. Upgrade from Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred to the professional version. This is an expensive upgrade. However I believe that the professional version of DNS-10 will allow programming of commands, including mouse button control. Does anyone have any personal experience of this? Does it work? Does it work well?

I am a very new user of SmartNav. I have only had it a couple of days and I'm trying to get to grips with it. Moving the mouse pointer around is a cinch. The problem is trying to get the mouse buttons to operate without using my hand on the mouse ... which defeats the purpose of having a hands-free mouse facility. I could use separate clicking buttons but I would like to go down the vocal mouse control route and then be completely hands-free of both the keyboard and mouse or any other hardware.

I cannot believe that I am the first person to want to combine SmartNav, and Dragon NaturallySpeaking and vocal mouse clicking. What does everyone else do?

Natural Point have advised me that there is an add-on disc which will allow vocal mouse button control for another $5. However they also say that it will work alone but not in conjunction with Dragon NaturallySpeaking or any other speech recognition software.

So ... how do I get all three things working together coherently?

Any advice ... anyone?

There is a free macro scripting language add-on for Dragon NaturallySpeaking called vocola. It works with the preferred version of DNS and goes a long way towards bridging the gap between preferred and professional. You can use it to verbally click mouse buttons, but much, much more.
