Hello All.
I just received my SmartNav4 on Saturday and am trying to get it up and running on my works PC.
I would like to know if when moving the cursor around it should jump from point to point, would makes it very hard to know where its going to end up.
I have tried the hints from other posts but no luck so far. I have RSI in both wrists so I am motivated to get this to work.
I have the speed at 13 and motion at 45, but at the moment it is unusable, i can not control the cursor at all and keep using the mouse. I have tried absolute and Relative.

Re: New User seeking advice
Is it possible I have a faulty device, when first plugged in I can control quite well but with 30 minutes, the control becomes very hit and miss. It is quite impossible to use.
The device itself becomes quite hot to the touch and letting it cool for a while and then plugging back in then gives me good control again.
Any thoughts ???

Re: New User seeking advice
What version of Windows are you using?
Is this a desktop, or laptop system?
Have you tried the device on another system?
Are you plugging in directly to the system, or are you using a hub?
Have you tried isolating the device on the USB ports?
Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?
In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Root Hub"(s), that show, and then select properties. On the power management tab, uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the USB port to save power (i.e. uncheck the box). Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

Re: New User seeking advice
1. I am using Windows XP, Desktop system at work, and Windows 7 Desktop at home. Work system is the one I am trying to get working first. But have plugged into home system and it also seems to only work for so long.
2. I am plugged directly into the USB ports on the back of both systems.
3. I have not tried different USB ports yet.
4. As I am using desktop USB should not be turning off the device and that does not seem to be the problem as do not see the RED LEDs going off at any point.
Bit more information, today I have plugged in the device and started the software. Used from 09:30-10:00 with out issue then slowly started to become very jumpy to the point where I give up.
At this point I have noticed that the green light on the device is no longer flashing when it detects movment. Cursor still moved but no green light at all. Green light was flashing when first using but do not notice when stopped.
After lunch I will attempt to use again and try to notice when/off light stops flashing. Can still see red LEDs are lit.
---------
Afternoon:
Ok, this afternoon started at 14:00 by 14:50 was swithing off again. This time the green led on the device do not turn off but stayed constantly on after a couple of minutes. Is this normal operation??? I am sure that when I started to use on Saturday this Green LED only stayed on when tracking me.
When I check in the control panel it does not show 'tracking' but 'no data', then it will suddenly track and the cursor will jump. When I first turn on as I move my head the cursor moves and it constantly tracks.
When I exit the SmartNav software the Green LED does not go out. Should this still be lit when I am not in the software???

Re: New User seeking advice
Have you turned of the USB power saving option, with the device manager.
What can happen, is that the USB ports can go into a lower power mode, which can effect how the device operates.

Re: New User seeking advice
I have gone into the USB settings and switched off the options to manage power.
I had actually thought that I had fixed my problems by using a cap with the sticker on the front and I can report that this worked amazingly for 10 minutes with the cursor following my head movement and then .... I was back to jerky movement.
There was no change to the environment round me, this is the frustrating part it works great after first being plugged in.

Any other USB devices plugged in next to the SmartNAV?
Do you have access to a USB hub, with it's own power supply to try the device on as well?
