I popped on a few days ago searching the forums for a way to get this device to stop working intermittently. At first glance it looked like a power issue to from the USB to cammera as the cammera would stop responding for small segments of time.
What didn't work for me:
- Checking the Power saver mod of the USB ports. They were set to always be on anyway.
- Trying the TrackIR 4 Software. It was just as bad for me if not worse as many of the inputs were freversed... That could be because I couldn't figure out how to inable the Trackclip in there.
------THE FIX THAT WORKED---------
Inside The Final 5 software under advanced options I looked under the camera Tab. There are 2 settings that seemed odd in Windows 7 It defaulted my IR Brightness to 0. However when I moved the slider I could only lower it down to 10 not back to 0 so I set that at 10. I also changed the Video Processing Mode to Standard rather then precission.

It sees to work for me.. however I havn't figure out how to save that setting and have to manually adjust it every time I start the software.
Hope this helps,
Zaldimar

When you select the TrackClip Pro option, it should turn off the IR LEDS.
Are you plugging the IR device, into the TrackClip Pro, before plugging it into the PC? Try placing them on seperate USB ports.

oh yeah I tried that. I got it to work using those two things I mentioned... perhaps the IR lights aren't needed at all in which case Precission doesn't work for me. Perhaps just switching to standard worked. Those are the only two things I've done to fix my problem.

I'll let Vincent continue to work with you on troubleshooting, but Standard vs. Grayscale shouldn't have any impact on what you're describing. Running the camera in Standard mode is not very ideal, as it sacrifices much of the camera's processing capabilities (a source of its precision).
As Vincent mentioned, the IR lights shouldn't directly be impacting performance either--if they were, it would be because there is a lack of power, and they're tipping the camera over the threshold. But, in that case, turning them on wouldn't be the solution. Rather, you'd benefit by turning them off. So, this doesn't seem like it should be connected to the issues you're having.
Just to reiterate, if at all possible, try to use Precision tracking instead of Standard. It really offers much more accurate and smoothing tracking.

Re: Fixed: TrackIR 5 w/Trackclip pro in Windows 7
The only logical conclusion for me would be that somehow having the lights activated maintains the camera from going into a sleep mode. Which for some reason can't be controled by disabling the Save Power to the USB function in Windows 7. The camera only goes spastic if I don't move my head in any way for about 5 seconds. If I return these functions to default.
I love this product and there is no way for me to go back to the days without it. I'm glad I got it jerry rigged to work for me and was just trying to help others that might be having this problem. I'm glad you are trying to figure it out as well as to the cause. It's nice to see you actively readying your forums and taking a step to make your product even better.
That might come off a bit Fanboy-ish... but hey it is
