w7 64 bit

Post by gdw »

This is probably not a new topic, but I did numerous searches for anything related to w7, 64 bit, 64, blah, blah, no results?
My immediate question is: will version 4.1.030 run with w7 64?
I have downloaded and installed 5.0 final B, but it really messed up my system, ie, bogged down, won't shut down, and I couldn't even uninstall it with revouninstaller. Had to go safe mode and delete, then clean up registry. I see many posts on problems with this release(5.0), and I really don't think I want anything to do with it, IF there is a version of trackir 4 that will work with my system(w7-64)as it did before the upgrade(?) to w7. ANY AND ALL help appreciated.

EDIT: I found a thread(finally) that says 4.1.037 will work.
I dwnld, installed, and it does work. I am trying to get it a little smoother, could use some help please.
The short while I had 5.0 working, it looked really good and smooth,,,but too many problems yet. I'll wait a while and try it again. I guess I answered my own post(again). I should have done more research before posting huh. If anyone has a good smooth profile for FSX they would care to share, it would be appreciated.

EDIT again: OK, this is crazy, I installed ver.5 without first removing ver.4.1.037,,when the "unsigned" nag came up, I clicked
"DON'T INSTALL",,,Three Times,,the setup finished,,,and,,,, Trackir 5 came up,, started FSX,, and it all worked as it should.
I don't understand, and it may work next time, but for now it is working very well. It is a great prog. Hope it continues to run.

CONTINUED next day :
Well, my luck didn't last, but I think now I have it.
I unplugged my logitech g25 wheel, and plugged the trackir usb connectors into seperate sockets, and it has been working well ever since. Hope this helps someone else.

Back again. After working well for about two weeks,,now if I "alt-tab" while in fsx, the screen goes black. I have to hit "escape", end flight, close fsx, restart computer to get things working again. Absolutely no changes made to the system during the past two weeks(I was enjoying flying). The problem is not there if trackir is not running.(was never there before).
Does anyone have any ideas(besides leaving trackir off) ???

I have found that if I "pause" trackir, I can "alt-tab", and switch between full screen and windowed mode without problems(SO FAR). Stay tuned for more statements of frustration. :(
I hope this benefits someone else, cause it doesn't seem to be doing me any good to post my problems.

FSX in general does not like to be 'alt-tab' out of. It can cause the video card drivers to lock, especially if you are using different display settings between the gaming application, and the desktop.

You are running the IR software minimized as well, correct?

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I am running trackir minimized.
Yes, most programs don't really like alt-tabbing, but I never had a problem with trackir4. Actually, I don't alt-tab very often but, I do frequently swich from full screen to windowed, in order to test profile changes to my saitek controllers. I can live with the situation as it is, but I hope some improvement is forthcoming. The trackir5 software seems to be very "touchy" as is evidenced by the number of "problems being posted. I have noticed that the "heads up" panel will not come up as long as I have FSX running. I shut down FSX and it's OK,,??
As with any new version of software, there are always "adjustments" to be made. Keep up the good work, it's a great product. It really makes MSFS "as real as it gets". Thanks, I'll be watching for updates.
