trackir 5 only the slightest movement

Post by oysterman »

I have the Trackir 5, cap clip, dark room. Set up went fine, everything seems to work however I only get the slightest movement on screen. I cannot turn the view more than 2 degrees, no windows, panel, etc. I have read a lot of trackir posts and I am very reluctant to start tinkering with the insides of the FSX package. I dont want to screw-up other add-ons that all work fine, out of the box I might add.

I wish that the advertising for this product had said that it will not work out of the box, that you will need tech support to get it to work.

Win7, 64 bit FSX
EVGA X58 SLI Chipset Core i7
Intel Core i7 980X Liquid Cooling
12 GB Mushkin Redline DDR3 1600 MHz CL6
1536MB Nvidia GeForce GTX 480
Citation Mustang, Pilatus PC12x, Cessna 172x

Hi Oysterman:
I guess I should say I feel your pain. Everytime I boot up is a surprise. Been told I need to modify the CFG file for each aircraft I have in FSX. Even though Vincent sent me the MS info I or many of my pretty smart computer gamer friends don't have a clue. Added an extra 2" of wood to move my 24 Samsung higher, Still have to bend my neck in normal position to get the lower inst. panel. Everything is set as it should be and have some great flights. Did not expect "plug and play" really want to master this thing but don't remember feeling this confused about CH CM and joystick. When it works makes flying closer to real world flying.

Within the TrackIR software, is the camera moving correctly within the display (3d view)?

Are you just seeing the 3 green points, in the camera window?

What do you have the overall speed settings set to?

Thanks for your reply. 3 answers:

the 3 points of green are moving.
In 3d grid mode after centering with f12, I have movement of 5* up, 10-15* either side and 5* down.
If I exceed 5* down the view flashes all the way to the left.

Are you just seeing the 3 green points, in the camera window?
yes

What do you have the overall speed settings set to?
frame rate is 120, trackmode:precision

How can I restore the trackir 5 to the default settings?
Should I delete the program and reinstall?
I have tried a number of the suggestions in the trackir manual to correct the problems mentioned in the above message with no success.
I seem to be making things worse.
I think I should get back to the original settings and start over.

Is there a suggested setting regimen for FSX? thanks

Are the IR points centered in the camera view?

In the software, under basic settings, what is the speed settings set for?

How far away from the camera are you?

Under the camera serial numbre, where it staes profile, is the default profile listed?

On the bottom edge of the software, is the precision box highlighted?

Thanks again for the comeback

Are the IR points centered in the camera view?
Yes, however it is so jumpy they don't stay there.

In the software, under basic settings, what is the speed settings set for?
speed 1, smooth 10

How far away from the camera are you?
I can touch the camera. about 25 inches

Under the camera serial numbre, where it staes profile, is the default profile listed?
It says:
Device:TrackIR 5 #127101
Profile:Default (X)
Title:None

On the bottom edge of the software, is the precision box highlighted?
The bottom line is gray with white letters
Center f12 - Precision F7 - Pause F9 = 3 lights
I tried clicking on the Precision block, it turns yellow, makes no difference in screen display.

With the slighest head movement the screen display moves wildly up and down, back and forth so fast I can't look at it for long.

I found another thread on your forum offering a suggested setup for flight but I could not open the file.

I hate to be a pain but I cannot figure this thing out. jack

OK, the points themselves (in the camera view) should not be jumpy. Are they going from red to green, or gray?

Do you see additional points within the camera view?

Hi, thanks again.
The points are green, no other colors, they are sometimes on an angle, usually square, never still. They are all over the camera screen, even though I remain very still.

Is my setup in the previous response the best I can do? Is there an optimum setup for FSX. I could not open the setup file in another message on this forum?

I don't use headphones because I haven't found a pair that fit comfortably, hense I did not get the pro lights. Could the cap reflectors be the problem?

Not sure I understand -

They are all over the camera screen, even if you remain still?

The points should be stationary, if you are stationary.

You aren't seeing any gray, or any other items on the camera window?
