Jittery tracking

Post by Yippee38 »

I've searched the forums, but haven't seen anything that has helped me.

Last week I used my TrackIR 3 (+ vector expansion) without any problem. I've been gone all week, and today I went to use it again. Today, when I logged into Aces High II, the view was very jittery. It's like I'm making very small, regular oscillations with my head, but, of course, I'm not.

I tried restarting the TrackIR software and rebooting. I also made sure nothing behind me is reflecting the IR. There are no "extra" reflections in the tracking window. I uninstalled the TrackIR software, rebooted, and installed the latest version (I had version 4.1.036, and now have 4.1.037.FinalB). Same problem.

One thing that I noticed that seems unusual, but could be just my memory is that the reflections in the tracking screen appear very low resolution compared to what I remember then being. I'll link to an image, so you can see what I mean. BTW, I can definitely see the jitters in the tracking window.

Oh yeah. Aces High II did release two new patches since last week, but I don't see any forum posts (here or there) indicating that those patches have caused any other TrackIR users problems.

Any suggestions on what I can do to get the steady head tracking again?

2 things.

1 - Try washing the trackclip itself, with some warm soapy water.

2 - You should use a different hat, or cover up the reflector built into the brim of the hat, as you should only see 3 objects in the camera view, not 4.

Ok. I can try that. I never had a problem with the hat reflector.

I covered the hat reflector, cleaned the reflectors on the clip, and even cleaned the sending unit lens. That didn't help. Any other suggestions?

BTW, I was able to verify that the problem is not just in Aces High II. I also got it in other sims. The amount of jitters varies based on the profile. I use a very aggressive profile in AH, whereas in other sims like iRacing and IL-2 I use the standard profiles. Those show far fewer jitters. The profile I'm using in AH is the same one I've been using for years without jitters.

No. Don't have another system with sims loaded.

How about with just the TrackIR software?

Much better on the other PC. Check out this image:

Dunno why the image is so small. Right-click and View Image to see full size.

I have to resurrect this thread since I'm still having problems. As you can see above, I am having problems with TIR on my main PC. I installed it on my wife's PC and it worked fine. Every time I try to use the TIR, the tracking window shows very low resolution IR dots. I have to unplug the unit and plug it back in. When I do that, it works fine. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the software, but that didn't help. Any suggestions?
