TrackIR 5 offset failure

Post by moilami »

Hello

I bought TrackIR 5 and it have a very annoying offset problem. Below is a picture describing it.

[img:center]http://i53.tinypic.com/14sla11.jpg[/img]

That happens when the camera is straigh inline with my head and not bent to left or right. I can move the camera to the left and bend it a little so that those green things gets "centered". However if I do that, I can't use effectively TrackIR as I can't use it now when it is so badly offset.

To make things more complicated, TrackIR has worked okay too. At first it worked okay, then it got bugged. Then it begun to work good, but now after the latest software update it is totally **** again and nothing seems to help.

Is there something I am doing wrong? Is there something I can do to make it work? Or have I spent 150 in a bad specimen? Help please.

That is very odd -

Sometimes it seems to be centered fine, and othertimes it is offset like this?

Yeah, that is what freaks me the most. I haven't been able to figure 100% what causes it to go offset like that.

It seems if I start the software while wearing the hat it goes offset. When I started the software without wearing the hat, it worked fine. Today I started the program while wearing the hat and it went offset and now it don't go back to normal if I start the software without wearing the hat.

Dunno if the hat playes any role in it, maybe it has been just coincidence.

I have myself studied years engineering and been working on computers and software, that is why I get freaked even more of the behaviour of my TrackIR. It has worked fine, so it should not be totally broken, but it have this strange offset problem, and I can't get what causes it.

Does TrackIR do some self configuration related to TrackClip hat thing or TrackClip Pro the headset thing? Because it appears like it would think I wear TrackClip Pro Headset thing, which would be to the left of my head, and the offset appears to be just good for TrackClip Pro Headset.

Ok now it works as it should when I started the software without wearing the hat. I am very glad of that! However this scary and annoying behaviour is still not figured out and I wont for sure try to start it while wearing the hat anytime soon!

No "self" calibration within the device itself.

In general you want the tracking points to be centered within the camera view, to allow for the greatest range of motion from your head movement.

I have exactly the same problem ... when I first switch my computer on, if I load TIR it works fine. In camera view 3 dots nicely centered.

If I exit TIR, then reload ... offset just as you have and the thing is almost unusable.

Is it a heating problem?

Pleqase email support, with your issue, a screen shot from the camera view, and camera serial number.

I also bought TIR 5 lately and I have this exact same issue. At first I thought it was because I was using "just" the trackclip that came with TIR 5 so I bought the trackclip pro. I received Trackclip Pro today and first run it worked perfectly. I played some Arma 2 OA, and it worked just fine. I quit the game, shutdown the software and later started the software again to see that its not properly "seeing" my Trackclip Pro now, only if I move it to very left or very right of the field of view it will show up as three extremely large blobs instead of the 3 sharp dots I saw earlier in the middle.

Now I very very rarely shutdown my computer if ever. With the few days I was using with the normal trackclip it seemed that the first run of the day worked OK but always after shutting down the software and running it again in a while would mess it up. Rebooting would not help either. Neither would disconnecting and reconnecting the device work.

I'm running on Windows 7 Professional 64bit.
Other hardware:
-AMD Phenom II X4 945
-MSI K9A2 CF mobo (MSI-7388)
-8gb 800mhz RAM
-Asus Nvidia ENGTX460 DirecCU 1GB GDDR5

Edit: Also looking closely at the screenshot my serial is just a couple of units different from whats in the shot.

Surely again, I started it up hours after last trying and it worked just fine. Shut it down after a minute or so and fired it up again and.. well this time it worked just fine immediately.. so I took a screenshot of the camera. I went to play a little with Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead and surely enough about 30 minutes later when I finished I rebooted the machine, restarted TIR5 software and everything was messed again. So I took a bunch of screenshots AND using my ber paint skills drew a little diagram to show what was taken and where. These screenshots plus the diagram can be observed from HERE. And a quick explanation of the diagram vs. screenshots:

1. Red X - tir5_ok.png and tir5_bad.png are taken from this position.

2. Red X - tir_bad_2.png was taken from this position

3. Red X - tir_bad_3.png was taken from this position (please do notice that the distance between 1-3 is greater than distance between 1-2. I would say that 1-3 is roughly 2x the distance between 1-2.)

4. Blue Hand - tir_hand_1.png was taken with my left hand like this. Please notice how the thumb is pointing left.

5. Green Hand - tir_hand_2.png was taken with again my left hand like this. It does not show in this screenshot but the thumb is again pointing left.

Just on a sidenote, I restarted my TIR5 to confirm that the thumb points left on tir_hand_2.png and it would not show anything at all on the camera this time, even at light filter threshold at 30 all I would see is black on the screen. I restarted the software and it seemed to produce the same offset image as earlier and as I'm writing this after closing down the software again I can clearly see that the IR leds are very faintly still glowing in the TIR5 unit. (Just took a few minute pause here to take some photos with my cellphone as it will show the leds burning bright.) Opening my taskbar also reveals that even though I closed the software its still running. I'm going to post this now and upload a photo to the same location as the screenshots are.

Edit: Uploaded photo.jpg where you can see the text I was writing along with my taskbar fully open with minimized icons as well and task manager showing the software still running. Also ending the process did not turn off the lights but I had to restart the software and shut it down again to make it turn off the lights.
