Track IR5 Causing win7 computer to freeze

Post by silentgreyfox »

I recently purchased track IR5 for use with DCS A10. I installed the beta drivers, and everything appears to work fine. However, after about 30 minutes, my machine seizes up. The only way to get out of it is to force a reboot.

The strange part is that upon rebooting, I get stuck with a disk read error, and cannot boot into windows ("A disk read error occurred, Press Ctrl + alt + del to reboot). This persists upon rebooting until I unplug the track IR device from my computer. Once unplugged, everything functions perfectly. This has happened multiple times and I can confirm that it is the track IR device that needs to be unplugged for it to proceed (I have tried different ports as well).

This is the only consistent event that I can find relating to the issue in the logs:

Faulting application name: Launcher.exe_DCS: A-10C WARTHOG, version: 1.1.0.3, time stamp: 0x4d10c086
Faulting module name: NPClient64.dll, version: 3.2.38.0, time stamp: 0x4d104fc8
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00000000000025b4
Faulting process id: 0x594
Faulting application start time: 0x01cba7f85bcaef60
Faulting application path: E:\A10\DCS A-10C Beta\bin\Launcher.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\NaturalPoint\TrackIR5\NPClient64.dll
Report Id: 571ceaa4-13f1-11e0-b2a6-001fbc00ce66

I have only tried using track IR5 with DCS A10, however I know I have arma lying around somewhere. I will give it a try with the beta drivers and see if the same issue persists.

Any other ideas?

System specs:
Windows 7 64 bit
Intel i7 @ 3.8 HT enabled
6 GB RAM
GTX 295 (260.99 drvr version)

If you have it installed as well, could you try using TrackIR with the 32-bit A10 game client? Our 64-bit support is still in beta, so I'd like to see if there's something going wrong with it specifically.

Don't have the 32bit version installed unfortunately. I will try it with arma a bit later tonight to see if it affects other games, however I suspect it's limited to dcs a10.

Ok, sorry it's taken me so long to do this, however I had to be sure of the results I was getting.

The issue also occurs in Arma2, however it seems to occur differently. After approx 1.5 hrs in game, the game freezes up, and upon rebooting I am once again presented with the "A disk read error occurred, Press Ctrl + alt + del to reboot" error. Once again I had to remove TrackIR5 from my usb port in order for the computer to boot.

When I take a look in my event logs, Arma2 didn't seem to have time to write any. There are however a string of very interesting disk errors. In total, I've observed the errors on 3 separate occasions, each time about 1.5 hours into a game of Arma2.

The error is as follows:

"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\DR0."

-------

The very strange part is that the error is logged 32 separate times within a period of 1 second.

At this point I began to think that there may be a problem with my main drive (120gb corsair SSD). I uninstalled the TrackIR drivers, ran chkdsk and a few benchmark applications, and couldn't find any issues.

I left the computer like this for a day during which I played both Arma2 and DCS A10 sans trackIR. No errors occurred during this time.

Today, I decided to give it another go, and installed the 64bit beta drivers. Once again, after about an hour and a half, the computer crashed while playing Arma2, and showed the "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\DR0." error in the event logs.

At this point I am going to uninstall the 64bit drivers and install the 32bit drivers. Since I only recently got TrackIR, I have never actually ran on the 32bit drivers, so I will test how stable they are with Arma2.

Thanks for doing the testing, we look forward to further results. If you can also test with the TrackIR 5.1 or 4.1.037 software (only supports 32 bit games) that would be helpful as well.
