Is my trackir possibly broken?

Ok im not sure which trackir i have i think it might be a 3. i got it from a friend so thats why i dont know which one it is.
Now i have the software download and when i go to run the trackir program it says no device is detected. and if i plug it into the computer it shows up as unknown device. I was told it might be broken but would it show up on my computer at all if it was? Im running Win7 64 bit
