Configuring TrackIR5 for a low-vision user

Post by siefex »

Hello all,

I just bought a TrackIR 5 and have encountered significant difficulty in configuring the device to work smoothly in flight sims. I am using the hat clip. The main cause of this problem is that I am moderately near-sided and need to sit 1 to 1 and a half feet from my 24" monitor in order to see all the instruments of my plane clearly. As a result, when I move into the 1 foot range of my monitor, TrackIR 5 cannot see 1 or 2 of the sensors.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can proceed in this situation? Is this a hopeless endeavor given how close I need to be to my monitor in order to see it clearly or is there another way to mount the camera so that it can clearly see all three sensors at all times? Also, would the TrackIR Clip Pro help at all?

I also have one more configuration question. One aspect of the TrackIR 5 I am not happy with is how I have to look sideways and hold my view in that direction in order to view certain parts of my cockpit. It just feels really awkward. My question, then, is can I configure TrackIR to move in one direction and then stay in that position until I move my head in the opposite direction? So, for example, if I move my head to the lower right to look at the power panel in an A-10C, if I then move my head back to center, can I configure TrackIR to hold the camera on the power panel until I move my head toward the upper-right. In other words, is it possible to configure TrackIR to work like the numberpad on the keyboard with my head movements acting as the inputs.

Let me know if that last question doesn't make sense. Thanks in advance for all the help!

OK, whether you are using the TrackClip, or the TrackClip Pro, the distance is going to be the issue. One thing you could do, is move the camera back from the top of the monitor, so it increases the actual distance between the TrackClip, and the camera itself.

For part 2 - You can move your head to the position that you want it to be at, then pause the TrackIR software (F9 by default)
