PT3 format

Post by spaceapple »

Hi Forum.
We're using the optitrack for facial mocap in our company and we're happy with it. Thanks guys.

Sometimes however, I would just just to get the raw 3D coordinates of the points recorded by Arena, which is painfull to decode from C3D or FBX files.

I guess the pt3 files we can save after a capture session hold that information. Is there a documentation somewhere describing the pt3 format so I can read 3D coordinates from my pt3 files ?

Thanks

The pt3 file itself is a proprietary OptiTrack format for the 3d data and isn't accessible outside of the Arena software. We are investigating the possibility of a CSV export option, but have no solid plans for that yet.

Oh ok...
So there no chance of getting the raw 3D point coordinates other than dealing with the C3D or FBX files I guess, right ?

That's for the answer.

Hey Nicolas,

The NatNet SDK has example programs that receive the data streaming from Arena and write it out as an ascii text file.

If you have a developer at your company they could use this as a workaround for you.

Oh ok. Didn't think of that, but it could be a good workaround indeed.
Thank you Morgan for the tip
