i just bought a renewal license for 500 dollars and wondering how does optitrak know what my license and camera serial numbers are? I put in all my info and current email address. When might i get an email with the new license and how does that license know what the serials are.

The Tracking Tools and Arena software licensing system requires that you attach your software serial to a hardware device, either a USB dongle or a camera. The software then will only run if that device is connected to the computer. Once you register your license to a device, it is locked to that device and can not be changed.
When you register a renewal license, you should run the OptiTrack registration utility, and register the renewal to the same hardware device that your original license was attached to. The tool then checks to ensure that everything is correct, and automatically places a license file on your computer. If you would like, you can also use our web utility which will allow you to download the license file for placement manually, or receive the file in email. License files should be placed in the following directory:
32 bit Windows: C:\program files\naturalpoint\optitrack\license\
64 bit windows: C:\program files (x86)\naturalpoint\optitrack\license\
