Uninstalled TIR5.0.300, cannot reinstall

Post by MartinM »

Hi

Today I uninstalled my TrackIR Software 5.0.300. Afterwards I started to install TrackIR 5.1.3 Final.

Unfortunately it does prompt me with an error.

"Could not extract support files. start of the server failed"

My System
Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 32-Bit
Windows 7 German Language Pack
Windows 7 Service Pack 1
GeForce GTX 260

Already tried to
a. removed driver from device manager including all files
b. tried to run system in save mode
c. launched executable as "run as administrator"

Any idea on how to get this fixed?

Thanks for help

Cheers
Martin

I believe we were able to get this resolved through an email support ticket, correct?

Could you possibly explain fix her as I have same error message
Win7 english 64 bit Radeon hd4670
Was running 5.1 beta I believe tried to go to 5.1.3 final cause I used to have shutdown problem. All heck broke lose on uninstall/reinstall. Have run cleaner, reboot, tried to reinstalll and now get message about error extracting. Really like your product but should have left it alone I guess and lived with shutdown problem.
Help please.

Hello -

When you reinstall, make sure that you download a clean copy of the installer and select "Save" instead of "Run". When the download is complete, navigate to the installer, right click, and select "Run as administrator" (even if your account is an administrator, this is quite important in windows 7 due to UAC).

If that generates errors, please reply with either a screenshot of the error or the error text.

Try clearing your windows temporary files directory. You can do this by right clicking on your c drive, selecting propertines, then clicking on "Disk Cleanup" just to the right of the pie chart.

Also, if the pie chart is entirely blue, or very close to that, you may just not have enough hard drive space to extract the files.

Had already done that but did it again. Also made sure no left over directory stuff in programs\naturalpoint\trackir area. Also again downloaded and saved new copy of driver.

Still same message about catastropic failure extracting. Also find that if I try old versions i had backed up they seem to no longer work without giving me this same error message. I have computer background and this is very strange indeed. I'm going to try to check registry for any left over tidbits that might be hanging out.
Would really like to get this up and running again cause I miss it on my driving sims.

Well I seem to be back up and running for now. My manual clean of registry with serch of trackir found some hits that I removed. It appears that is what finally solved the reinstall problem for me. Even with the final version I still have a problem with unit leds not shutting down when shutting dons software. Will worry about that one more later, at least I'm back up and driving with unit.
Thanks for thoughts and greetings from Salem, Oregon
just up I-5.
