TrackIR 5 XP Problem and workaround

Well hello again,

I�m back! With a solution for the Problem with the 5.1.3 Final software on XP Pro, just tick the "deactivate visual designs" box in the compatibility options in XP.

When I installed the 5.1.3 Final software it worked well on XP, but yesterday it began to crash again. So i did what Vicent recommended, I re-installed the VC++ 2005 Libraries, which made no difference, it kept crashing on shutdown and I wasn�t able to start it again. So i uninstalled the VC++ 2005 Libraries and installed them again fresh, with a reboot. Didn�t work!

In a stroke of genius............well I wish! :whistle: I decided to deactivate the Visual designs as I�ve done it in Win 7 for a lot of games. It worked again, I did open it up and shut it down multiple times in a short time frame, I got one crash, which didn�t affect the program. I got an odd unspecified error message on shutting down windows, but again it did not affect the program.

I�ve only got the visual designs deactivated, nothing else, no compatibility mode.

Strangely though I�m getting continous crashes at the moment.........all at startup and the compatibility mode doesn�t change a thing. Strange......

By the way that windows is made from a customized installation CD, otherwise AHCI does not work.

Edit: I�ve got myself a new ntdll.dll or rather an sp2 version and I placed it in the TrackIR 5 folder, it seems to have solved it for now.

Das ist gut, Ich kann Deutsch lesen.

I'm not sure that placing the dll in the trackir directory really solved the issue, as proper function really only requires that file to be in system32. If having it in your TrackIR directory does make a difference then I would really cast a suspecting eye on your operating system, because it's rather evident that it's file handles are completely broken.

Well I used a registry fixer run through the system, i hope it changes something. The funny thing is that I�ve only got this problem with the TrackIR 5 software and nothing else, not the 4, no other game, no other program. Well at dll.com it was said as a tipp that I should place the .dll in the folder first, before attempting to replace the .dll in the systemfolder. Well I�m only going to run XP until there is a VM with a really good D3D and soundhardware support, which can emulate XP, then its gone.

But can you tell me more of your suspicion about the broken file handles, any ideas how? I used a customized CD, with AHCI drivers and with an integrated SP2. It�s part of a multiboot, WinXP pro 32bits and Win 7 Pro 64 bits.
