Before I buy

Post by tim737murphy »

Wasnt too sure on what headgear was needed for IR 5. I dont usually wear headphones. I primarily use MS FSX. Is the headgear that slides on the ballcap okay or is the Pro clip needed. Want what works best.

While the TrackClip Pro (headphones) has better range of movement, the hat clip works just as well. In this situation I would recommend going with whatever feels comfortable. Remember, the TrackIR comes with a hat clip in the box already!

I have the Track Clip Pro, and I would have to say it's superior to the hat clips. It plugs in via USB and it seems to get a cleaner signal to the software.

Unless you always wear a hat in the house, I just think it would be hot and uncomfortable to wear while gaming.

I have a couple different setups.

1. I use Track Clip Pro on a set of Logitech G35 headphones, (the snap on clip just barely fits on them) You said you don't use headphones, so see below and maybe you can come up with a creative option.

2. When I am using 5.1 surround speakers, I took an old broken headset mic and stripped it down so only the Track Clip Pro is attached to it. I removed the mic boom, the wiring and the speaker entirely from the headgear so my hearing is not imparied whatsoever. It's quite lightweight and comfy.

You can see this in action on YouTube and here.
