(Retitle) TrackIR5.exe remaining after closed

Post by Voyager »

Edit: Formerly Titled "Conflict between TrackIR5 and CM Control Center Win7-64"

Peripheral arguments are never enjoyable to debug, and this one's probably going to be extra special fun.

I've got a Windows 7-64 bit computer, with a CH HOTAS setup: Fighterstick USB, Pro Throttle USB, Pro-Pedals USB, and the CM Control Manager installed to do various remaps. Whenever the computer sleeps, it loses the controllers. Annoying, but I can run the CM re-detect to fix things. However, if I have run the TrackIR software any time since the last cold boot of my computer, the detect function locks and I can't access my controllers at all, until I've done another full shut-down.

I've also just noticed that the TrackIR software fails to work correctly after a failure to redetect the other peripherals. I'm going to go run a bunch of tests and post the results.

Addendum: Testing has identified the problem.

TrackIR5 does not properly exit when I close the software, and leaves a copy of the TrackIR5.exe *32 running as a background process. Apparently this scrambles the CM Control Center, when it tries to redetect the controllers after a sleep cycle, so it hangs, which is the most noticeable problem.

Another, more subtle problem is it can accumulate many copies of itself running in the background if the process doesn't get killed between sessions. This explains why, before I rebuilt my system recently, it would sometimes use 90% of my CPU cycles, even on a dual-core machine. Multiple copies of the program would be competing with eachother and flood the CPU. This had lead me to stop using TrackIR until I finished rebuilding my computer, as I figured, it was simply resource heavy.

Hello -

The termination issue in 7/64 is a known issue, and we are working to discover the cause of it so that we can eliminate it.

More fun for you. Apparently now, when I've killed the TrackIR process, after using it in conjunction with the CH manager in a game, after sleeping the computer, waking it back up, if I attempt to redect my controllers I get a Windows 7 BSOD about unhandled IRQ requests.

Is it possible that when the TrackIR software shuts down, it sends an IRQ that is not getting answered, and is simply getting stuck waiting for somebody to get back to it?

Do you run into this issue without the TrackIR plugged in? What's the exact BSoD? Do you have the stop code, or the event log entry?

Mike, I am not getting any problems like Voyager was, however I am getting the process not shutting down problem after I exit TIR. I'm using process explorer and after exiting FSX and closing all addons including TIR, I can go and open Process explorer and if I haven't checked it in a few starts of FSX there will be two or three instances of it running or at least showing up in Process explorer. I'm not doing any mapping and I have the hibernate option shut down completely on my pc, so I can just use process explorer to kill all the instances that show up. I'm not noticing any ill effects from this because the next time I start TIR everything is just like I left it, its not affecting my profiles or anything. I'm using Tir 5.1 or whatever the latest one is and running windows 7 home primium with FSX SP2 not acceleration. To tell you the truth I wasn't even worried about it, I just got curious to see if it had happened to anyone else. If you need me to provide more info I'll be glad to help anyway I can.

This is a known issue that we are working dilligently on trying to track down. It should not affect the system other than tying up approximately 40-60 MB of RAM, and manually ending the process works to free the resources again.

Out of curiosity, could we get some system specs for your computer? Software versions and updates applied (specifically video card and windows updates) would be of great help.

Same here, Vince:TrackIR5 does not properly exit when I close the software, and leaves a copy of the TrackIR5.exe *32 running as a background process.

Win7/64 - FSX on the F: drive, TrackIR4, using 5.1_Final s/w. located in C:\Program Files (x86)\NaturalPoint\TrackIR5

Water-cooled i7-2600K @ 4.8 gig, ASUS P8P67 B3 Deluxe; HT Off; EVGA GTX580@860; 8-gig Corsair Vengeance C8@1600; Win 7-64; TH2G w/3x19" Viewsonic VA926; Homebuilt airliner-style yoke and pedals; 6-pack throttle quadrant - (SimKits Analogue module); TrackIR5

HID devices are set to never sleep.
