IR light strobe safety

Hi.

We use an optitrack for mocap at our studio (6xV100 camera with IR illumination), that we also occasionally use for facial motion capture.

I was contemplating using the system for facial mocap from a very close distance (something like 40cm) for closeup capture of skin movement and I was wondering about the safety of strobbing IR light at such a short distance from a person's eyes.

So basically, the V100 camera + IR lights would be at 40cm from the eyes, and the light intensity is typically at a low level (between 1 and 3 out of 15).

Is there a way to know if this is safe/not safe for short or extended capture session ?

At that distance, when using the cameras for facial mocap, you should not be using strobed mode. The cameras can be set to continuous mode, to give a must softer light. Additionally, the light output, even at 40cm, is very low and poses no additional risk to the subject.
