Minimum number of cameras?

Post by sirgoose »

Hi,

I was wondering if its possible to do motion capture work with anything less than 6 cameras?

I had my heart set on buying V100:R2 cameras for the new year, but I'm a student and can't afford the site's recommended number.

Hi Sirgoose

Unfortunately no.. full-body and facial require 6 at a minimum., has to do with occlusion.. (and even with 6, I've found that there are movements you would have a hard time with)

3-4 cameras would only allow you to capture rigid bodies..

Every now and then, someone sells their old v100r1 systems here in the marketplace.. and you could get them for a good price.. (I've seen them occasionally on ebay too)

Thanks for the info Bryan. I'll keep an eye out on the marketplace/ ebay.

I'll look into the V120:Slim models too, I'd be able to save up for 6 eventually.

Sirgoose

the v120's are not really designed for mocap.. so I wouldn't recommend them for that purpose. These are designed more for industrial applications.

I see, I'll stick to the V100:R2's then. Thanks.
