Also: 10 cameras doesn't make that much sense. Once you get beyond 6, think in terms of multiples of 4 (unless you have a rectangular volume). 8, 12, 16, 20, and 24 camera systems are all very easy to set up and aim. Just keep everything square and relatively symmetrical. When you have an extra 2 cameras, it makes for an asymmetrical setup, which can yield inconsistent capture volumes. For simplicity, I love my setups in multiples of four.

So, in your case, I would only go with the R2s if you grab 12 of them. Otherwise, I like the 6 Flex 13s better.

ok well I think i might just hang fire and look at getting the 8 flex 13's then. Sounds like if I get the 6/8 cam system it will deliver some decent results right away nice to expand so thanks for your advice. I have a good idea what I need now and what I need when expanding.

Thanks for your advice, hope to get my hands on some soon!

Glad to hear it. I think you'll get great results, provided you can find a good area to setup in. If you have any questions about setup, aiming, calibration, etc... please feel free to ping us on the forums or via email. We're here to help. :)

Thanks Seth that is good to know, and there is 1 question which I am not sure if you can answer.

Say for example the 6 cam Flex 13 package, and these SDK setups.. I have no idea how to program, so this is out of the question to me but I am thinking if there is SDK (which is like opensource in a way right? or some form of open interface) is there a free version of what Arena does? I would like arena as it as some smoothing tools and obviously its a good bit of software, but what I was thinking to get me going was to see if I could make do with some free/cheaper alternative and then buy that later rather than cut down on cams!

What do you think? because i can take arena out the bundles and save 2000 USD which is 2 cams! :D

Hi Tomuk,

ARENA and our cameras are joined at the hip. :) We do have a few free SDKs, but they offer ways to interface with existing products, not replacements for them. They don't provide any of the essential mocap tools like calibration, point tracking, marker labeling, skeleton fitting, data cleanup, export, or streaming.

ARENA is more than just a data processing or cleanup tool--it's the engine that drives the whole system. There's no getting around it. :)
