Precision Mode - Movement still too fast

Post by Dieter »

Sorry, don't know if this was ever asked.
(Didn't find an answer applying "search" function)
I'm using Win 7 64 Bit, TrackIR software 5.2 final.

My problem in Flightsimulator X:
Although switched to 'precision mode' head movements are enforced on screen too fast. Dedicated switch is active.
(Yes, I move my head very slowly)
Unlike earlier versions of Track IR software a difference in 'precision mode' is barely noticeable comparing 'normal' mode.

Is there a way to lower this more?

There is a speed setting on the camera tab, make sure that isn't set high. Which profile are you using? You may want to modify one of the default ones and see if that gives you better performance.

I'm using profile Flightsimulator X/smooth.
When clicking the camera tab I have 7 titles.
Which is the one I have to change and what is setting to lower speed?
(is it 'Precision Mode Smooting'?)

I don't have the experience in modifying a profile. Weren't there any profiles for FSX to downlaod?

Hi Dieter,

The profiles aren't necessarily specific to a game, so there's no need to use an "FSX Profile" to use TrackIR with FSX. Plus, the default profile is tuned to work well with FSX out of the box. However, some genres can benefit from a custom tailored profile.

To that end, I created a flight-specific profile that I think works very well in FSX. You can download and try it here:

I usually recommend setting speed to 1 and smoothing to 10, but if you really want a slow, smooth experience, you could try setting the smoothing at 50.

If that's still too fast, we can show you a trick for ramping the smoothing up considerably using the Precision mode.

Hello Seth,

I tried your flight-specific profiles. They are a bit better.
As this is really an individual personal feeling (different users - different opinions) I would like to know more about your trick for ramping the smoothing up considerably using the Precision mode.

Please give me an iformation about that.

Hi Dieter,

By default, the Precision Mode smoothing setting is at 100, or 2x the maximum smoothing possible with the Smooth slider in the Basic Settings section.

If you would like to have more than 100 smoothing applied, there are a couple of ways. The simplest is to use Precision Mode, but increase the smoothing setting to something higher than 100. You can find this setting under Advanced Settings > Camera tab:

As you can see in this screenshot, I have increased the setting to 350. This should approximate the smoothing that you would experience in the 4.x TrackIR software. You can play around with this to find the right smoothing setting for your preference. Just be sure to activate Precision Mode with F7, or whatever you have it keybound to, in order to apply the smoothing.

I'm sorry, there is still one small problem.
In Advanced Settings > Camera tab
I cannot switch Video Precision Mode to "Precision"
There is only "Standard" possible (even if I activate "Precision Mode" via F7, the yellow marking for this is active)

Precision "Video Processing Mode" is different than Precision Mode for tracking. If Precision Video Processing Mode is what you're unable to switch to--I assume this is because you have a TrackIR 4, which doesn't support that mode. That's OK, because it's not what we're looking to modify here.

To activate Precision Mode for tracking, just hit the appropriate hotkey (F7 by default).
