CUSTOMIZE REFLECTIVE IR PROFILES

Post by iROCKZ »

The track IR product is really Phenominal. Head range motion is limited with the Ballcap CLIP which I will refer to as a PASSIVE interface. The Pro version is obviously a ACTIVE interace, as it emit's Light.

So to understand the technology, the Passive system has a rolled edge that allows a parallel reflective surface to the camera at most angles except for when raising your head including tilting back to look up.. This is when the Ballcap Visor hides the 3rd reference point and now the Track IR looses its 3d Depth reference.

Why couldn't a user just create a less intrusive passive device with software capable of profiling multiple ( more then three ) Fixed vector points, and track like 5 or 8 points... If you have a great set of headphones, with a Mic, its possible to have vectors dissapear and still operate with full head movements..

It would be possible to have more than the three points to track. We kept it at three so the clips could be more flexible in what they attach to and to keep the size down. I'm sure some of the hardcore sim guys wouldn't mind wearing a whole helmet, but not everyone would want to :)

We have also found that occlusion of the markers can be taken care of with camera placement and adjusting software profiles to exaggerate head movement.

Thanks Jeff, I agree, the helmet would be hardcore, but I wouldn't run into public and tell anyone. :)

My Wife got me a TrackIR 5 for Xmas and got it delivered, but ended up missing out on the bundled Headphone style.

I run Wondows 7 64bit on a Sabertooth board and ATI 6970 special edition. Absolutely not one software error.

I did note that my EYE-WEAR, causes the Track IR to glich once in every Odd moment.. I have not definitive proof yet, but taking off the glasses it hasn't gliched ( breif loss of connection causeing a Visual Studder )

Your product is Excellent, but what I like most, The awesome tech support you offer with the users on the forum.

Great job.

It could be possible that the TrackIR is picking up some occasional glare off your glasses. This is usually from sunlight and some types of lights/lamps like halogen or HPS/LPS bulbs.

Unless you need a specific bug fix I would refrain from updating your video card drivers also. ATI has a nasty habit of breaking OpenGL applications with driver updates, and TrackIR uses OGL to render the HUD section.

Can I assume that the IR LED system in the PRO is not modulating anything its just the light source..@ 880nm IR ... Well I Want to get the Pro Clip, then Measure the vectors and build led's onto my Razer Chimaera Wireless Headset, and use the headset for power. Since its Rechargable anyways.. Totally stoked on this idea. Just got to find the reference points of the vector.

I believe the TrackClip Pro uses the same LEDs that we sell as active markers for our larger motion capture systems.

LED Data Sheet

Motion capture suits and reflective markers for optical mocap/tracking systems.
