What Custom Settings Do You Use

Post by -=Raz=- »

Until we get the .dll file, lets share what custom settings we are using in IL-2.

My settings are:
X Speed = 21
Y Speed = 17
Smooth = 120 (MAX)
2X = Not Enabled

RAZ,

I could be wrong, but I think it probably depends upon your stick AND what kind of puter you have.

Maybe it might be a better question to ask what settings for the different sticks to start with and an additional bonus if the puter/video/ISP/etc. data is included.

Actually the computer and stick have little to do with the TIR function.
The TIR unit uses very little resources, so if you have good frame rates your setting are the same....MY PIII 1 GHZ with a MS stick runs with the same settings as my AMD 2400+ with a Cougar.
also another tweak to use in IL-2 is the mouse speed box in the input setup screen where the joystick is tuned with the sliders. I run with that at 1.2.....however my TIR settings are almost the same as above.

FWIW, here are my system specs.

AMD XP 2200
512Mb PC 2700 RAM
GeForce3 Ti200
M$ Force Feedback 2 Stick

Something else that I've done that helps me alot is that I have mapped a macro to a joystick button that really helps me to re-center my view when centering gets out of whack. The macro is:

TIR Pause...(3 milla secs)..Number Pad 5..(195 milla secs)....TIR Pause

The 'TIR Pause' is whatever key you have the 'Pause' function setup to on the TrackIR driver. It's defaulted to F9, but I use the 'Q' key. I can't remember why I do this. The Number Pad 5 key is the default key within IL-2 to re-center the view within the game.

Another key I have mapped on my joystick is 'Shift' + 'F1'. This is the default command to shift gunsight views. This comes in handy at times when chasing a plane in cockpit view as it allows you to sometimes see around struts.

I also was using the same TIR settings on an AMD 1.2Ghz machine. So I'm in agreement with bhodi that the system specs have little affect on the TIR settings.

Once again, thanx for clearing that up, BHODI.

My system:
AMD 2100+
512meg DDR RAM
GEForce4 Ti4600
COUGAR HOTAS

I'm gonna try these settings out. Right now, I have my IL2 mouse set at 1.0 and my x & y for TrackIR at 14 smoothness is maxed out.

Raz,
The gunsight/strut shift is 'shift & F1' not F2
Also another tip I picked up early on is to map 'F3 (outside) & F1 (cockpit)' to a joystick button.
Pressing this recentres your 'Track' view automatically. Just make sure that in difficulty you haven't disabled 'outside views'

Yep, you're right Georgio, I meant to say Shift + F1 (I've edited the post, thanks).

I've heard of others mapping joystick buttons with an external view and another to cockpit view as a means to re-center. I've set up my macro as described above so I that don't exit out of the cockpit view. I do it this way for a couple of reasons. One is that I find it easier to stay on target if I'm on the six of a bogey. The second is the momentary exit out of the cockpit to the outside of the plane and back kind of blows the immersion.

Obviously rigging either re-centering method is a personal preference. Both ways work.

X and Y both at default values = 15
smoothness to the max = 120
2X greyed out = means 2x faster panning enabled

mousesensitivity in IL2 set at 1.3

FWIW, I recall now why it is that I mapped the 'Q' key to 'pause' Track IR instead of using the default F9 key. The 'Q' key is easier to reach with the left hand when flying as my right hand has hold of the joystick.

This is a minor point, but I thought it was worth mentioning if someone already has all their joystick buttons mapped out already.
