Problems of Streaming Data from Motive to Matlab

Post by mc3570 »

We are currently using matlab codes provided by Glen Lichtwark. We came with a problem. Every first time we try to run the TT_Tools_demo on the Matlab, it is working. But once we want to run it in the second time, it just crushes. Error manager shows that something is wrong because of "Segmentation violation detected". We want to know how to run the codes in multiple times without killing the Matlab over and over again.
The folowing code is the error message.

Code: Select all

Hello,

Thank you for your patience. Unless you need direct application control via the API, NatNet would be a simpler and more durable way to get your data into MATLAB in real-time. Is there any particular reason you would need to use the API over NatNet?

Thank you for your reply, we have found the problem. Matlab crashes when the program try to run the following code: "calllib('NPTrackingTools', 'TT_Initialize'); " for the second time after we successfullly run it for the first time. Is there a possibility that the library's function has something wrong. By the way, we try to run the program(provided by Glen Lichwark in 2010) on Matlab 2011b (32bits) and use the library from Motive 1.0.2. Thank you.

Dear Dustin,

Thank you for your help, it has been very useful so far. We were wondering if there is a way to stream a single marker data (without defining a rigid body) to MATLAB using NATNET. We want to track the position of a single marker in real time and we still cannot figure out the way to do it and even if it's possible.

We appreciate your time

Best regards

Hello,

You could use the NatNet/MatLab example, which shows how to get streaming data into MatLab via the NatNet C# wrapper assembly. This is found in the NatNet SDK.

Every first time we try to run the TT_Tools_demo on the Matlab, it is working. But once we want to run it in the second time, it just crushes. Error manager shows that something is wrong because of "Segmentation violation detected".

I realize that this is an old post, but it didn't actually look like there was actually a resolution to the problem, and I ran into the same issue using the NatNet SDK 2.7 using 64-bit Matlab (2013a) and Motive 1.7.5 (also 64-bit). I am broadcasting a single rigid body from one computer running Motive, set up for unicast broadcasting, and my Matlab client is running on a second computer. If I run the sample client that is included with the SDK, but modified for the appropriate network addresses and unicast, it runs fine once, but the second time it often fails with a segmentation violation and Matlab has to be shut down. Sometimes it would run several times, but it would always crash eventually. The client that I built that was based heavily on the Matlab sample client would only run once, and would always crash the second time. Finally, I discovered that what was missing was a

Code: Select all

theClient.Uninitialize
command at the end. I have not seen a segmentation violation with either the SDK's Matlab sample or with my own client since adding that command.

Hello et1234,

Thank you, very much, for sharing this information publicly.
You are absolutely correct; running the TT_initialize a second time will cause the application to fail.

I hope others will be able to find your detailed description of the solution to this problem.

Cheers,
Steven

Re: Problems of Streaming Data from Motive to Matlab

Hello,

I have a comparable problem (i am running motive 1.8.0 Beta 1 version (64-bit) on a HP Elitebook labtop 8560w (CPU Intel i7 2630-QM 2.00 GHz, 8 Go RAM), windows 7 professional (SP 1), and matlab R2013-a version, and NatNetSDK 2.7,

Everything works fine with Motive (sampling rate 360 fps).

I am using NatNet matlab sample (FrameReady mode) in a batch mode (streaming rigid body data to matlab for 7 seconds duration interleaved with 5s of 'rest' -no streaming- periods) for N successive takes (Data are stored take by take, only in Matlab),
theClient is unitialized correctly after each take,

My problem is that matlab crashes randomly (it can be after 2, 50 or 60 iterations/takes),
When debugging, I have increased the streaming duration to 80 seconds, and here matlab always crashes at the second iteration,
memory does not seem to be an issue as the memory used by Matlab from iteration to iteration never exceeds 1 500 Mo,
I also set my network card properties to max values ('Speed and Duplex' option...), but still crashes...

Yesterday for the first time, I had a blue screen ... so I would be really grateful if someone can help,

Below are two error messages (the typical one from Matlab, and the one I get after bluescreen event)

sorry for this long post, and THANKS for your help !

HalH
