Motive User Manual

Post by DarrenCambridge »

Hi,

We’ve just upgraded to Motive, and have been impressed with how solid our mocap data is compared with our captures in Arena. We have a greater capture area, calibrating is faster and more reliable, as is skeleton creation, we have much fewer dropouts even when capturing two actors, and we’re able to have characters roll around on the floor which simply wasn’t possible previously. All of this is excellent, but we could really do with a user manual to get the best out of the software. Does a detailed manual exist?

We also have a bit of feedback which we’d greatly appreciate being resolved in future updates if possible.

During Capture
- Auto increment doesn’t work – rather than incrementing to 001, 002, 003, Motive increments to “001”, “001_001”, “001_001_001”, “001_001_001_001”
- It’s possible to accidently re-record over existing takes – no warning message
- After creating a new skeleton, user should be prompted to export skeleton. This step can easily be missed.
- The ‘Trajectorizing’ progress window often gets hidden behind the program. This should be set to ‘always on top’.
- After trajectorizing, the next take down is made current. We’d prefer that it remain on the trajectorized take in order to review the trajectorized data. Currently we have to reselect this take (minor niggle, but this feels unintuitive)

During Cleanup
- No ‘Export ALL tracking data’ option. There is currently a separate ‘save’ dialogue box for every individual take, so the user has to manually set each take to the desired framerate - time consuming and annoying when dealing with large quantities of data.
- Cleanup alterations to trajectorized data are auto saved if you move on to another take. Prompt box is needed – ‘Do you wish to save?’ Currently the only way to get rid of changes that you don’t want to save is to close the program. Even then, I’m not convinced that my changes aren’t being autosaved as I work.
- Manual save option is needed for cleanup. Sometimes you want to save progress at various stages when working on a take.
- Not able to flexibly drag (marquee) select keys on the timeline. If I want to delete all keys above a certain point, I can’t do this – I have to select each of these timescales individually.
- Closing the program whilst a take is loading corrupts the data within that take.

Any help on any of these issues would be greatly appreciated as would a manual!

Thanks,

Darren.

Hi Darren,

Thank you for your feedback. I have submitted this to our development team.

This is not a complete manual but here is a link to our Motive WIKI:

We are working on updating this. Feel free to post on the forums if you have any specific questions you would like to ask. You may also submit a ticket at:
