Well after a long wait I have IL FB, man I have been dying for a game like this to support TIR and now it does IL2 FB is TIR's killer app, great work Jim & Halstead in finally getting Oleg to support your hardwear its been a long time comeing and you & the user base have lobbyed long and hard for it to be incorperated in IL2, well its hear, its awsome, and it was well worth it. Congrats team I hope you make a killing out of this.
I can also now see what all the moaning about the linda blair veiw and the upside down view was all about too and quite frankly I cant see what the promblem is in all the flying in IL2 FB i have done today (around 8 hours all up) I manged to get the upside down view 2 time and both of these were when i really looked down and up futher than i do normally, it has been like this in FS2002 all the time and in my natural looking around the sky I have never ended up in a upside down view. For me I dont care if they fix it or not it will never affect me as I will never hit those view points in my normal scanning regime.
As for the Linda Blair view (looking back correctly not upside down) well I still stand with the others here, either fix it so everyone can use it or remove it so that TIR people end up with the same look back views as Hat/Mouse users either way no one view type user should have advantage.
Once again Jim & the TIR team great work, looking forward to your next project if you need a hardwear beta tester you know who to email.
Ha ha ha just got IL2 FB awsome, just awsome

The more time I spend with this the more I fun I have, it also makes me laugh just how much MS missed the boat with CFS 3 and not supporting at least a mouse view in that sim.
Looking forward to the fix to make all things equal Jim.

Absolutely correct Hotdog,
The enhanced mode is working beautifully it's very smooth. In fact there's no reason to ever go back to mouseview now with this supported feature. But like you said, things must be made equal from one way or the other

Hi DNME im glad you have calmed down now <G>
and enjoying the Absolute mode, I cant belive how smooth it is I knew it would be good as its the same in FS2002 but I didnt think it would be this good.
Once the fix is in a we have a level playing field its going to be even better, lots of intrest has been sparked at Il2 Simhq forums and I think the take up is going to be massive once Il2 FB is fully out in Europe and works better on HL than it does now, I can see Squads just setting up with TIR users only as the advantage to proper head panning in IL2 FB is massive, I went back to Il2 just this morning to play with some mates online in NZ and I just couldnt use the mouse view anymore it felt clunky to me now and not natural (read I couldnt hit shit) so switched to mouse panning on my Cougar Joystick and switch off TIR, first time I have ever done that, anyway 1 hour later I was back in TIR heaven in Il2 FB.

Re: Ha ha ha just got IL2 FB awsome, just awsome
Well Spitfire,
I agree with your points, and i have nothing against a 6 o clock view at all. I even like the 6 oclock view, but i'd rather do without it than later on have non trackIR users accuse those with trackIR of "cheating". That does nothing but give the trackIR a bad rep.
I'm a long time trackIR user from the early IL2 demo days on, and in those days it was regarded as common sense that every method of viewing should have the same viewing limitation angles. E.g. in the 1st demo i could pan x times 360 degs in the x axis with the trackIR if i wanted to . It was known to the beta testers and in the final release it was fixed.
Furthermore in the past i've been in many heated discussions already, about trackIR and it's use being regarded as cheating. And in all the time i've been using the trackIR i've never ever heard or read one single complaint from a trackIR user, about the lack of a 6 o clock view. Not once. The most complaints you read are that it's difficult to get used to, that it requires recentering and pausing. But no complaints whatsoever about the lack of a dead six view. That's why i find the sudden longing for a dead six view a bit peculiar.
Still the decision in what way the playing field is leveled is not up to us, but up to the FB developer. Frankly, compared to other sims, as advanced as FB is, i find there's still a lot left to be desired in IL2/FB's viewing system in general. TrackIR users have been able to bypass some of the viewing limitations and now with the current enhanced mode, it kinda leaves the non trackIR users extra in the cold. Again much of it is ofcourse FB developers designer decision. If it were up to me i'd give trackIR and non trackIR users alike, the possibility to a dead six view.

Re: Ha ha ha just got IL2 FB awsome, just awsome
To DNME :::I've been reading the arguments about a level playing field re; the180Deg view with Trackir.I like Trackir the way it is.I play on line frequently with a friend that almost always uses external view. If I'm right and it is the same as Cfs3, with the click of the hat switch, he has a completely unobstruted view of 6:00 oclock !!Being a pilot I've always preferred the cockpit view . The Trackir not only gives me the immersed feeling I've missed in other sims , but also levels the playing field,so to speak.I've been flying water bombers and Bird-dog aircraft for years and take it from me. I have no problem looking at my 6:00 oclock when necessary.I hope Natural Point and developers that create the sims like IL-2 keep looking forward(and backward,,pardon the pun). Thanks.
Re: Ha ha ha just got IL2 FB awsome, just awsome
Well, i have had FB a day and a half now and have a few views (pun intended) of my own.
When i first heard of this i thought what the hell have they done, i had heard how good TIR was with FB and i thought maybe they had broken it.
I had no need to worry, the dead 6 view is actually pretty good, i was a bit concerned it would detract from the immersion of the sim but its not a problem for me at all. I'm still not sure that you could get that view in real life, some say yes, others no.
I'm happy to leave this in though.
I don't like the way you can look down, through your body and out the back again? It's easy enough to avoid dsoing it though, so no real biggy.
I think if they give mouse pan users the dead 6 view, it wil be fair but didn't we all have this argument when il-2 first appeared, it had this view and people didn't like it?
Whatever the outcome, TIR has given the SIM community a shot in the arm imo, it's the biggest improvement in the genre since the HOTAS, without question.
I would also like to say if you guys do manage to get some sort of HMD up an running how are we going to use the 50,000 key presses in FB?
If i'm in a virtual world i really don't want to be able to have to see the keyboard, i want complete isolation.
Great stuff and thanks for the FB absolute mode, if other sims down the line don't incorporate it, i don't see myself buying it.
