Trackir 5 not working

I've seen a few others on here saying there camera won't detect the pro clip or the hat clip. But I have not seen a resolution. My Trackir only seems to detect objects that are an inch or two away from it. Any further and nothing gets detected. I've adjusted the settings over and over to manipulate the program but nothing seems to work. Any advise, or did I maybe just get a bad Trackir.
