Placing TrackIR 5 straight above your head (axis remapping?)

Post by Burny »

Hi,

I recently purchased TrackIR 5 and played around in the software briefly. It seems there is no option to remap, say, the Z-rotation to the Y-rotation axis. If I'm not just blind and missed it, would it be possible to implement such an option?

The reason is that the TrackIR is intended to be used in the living room. As the distance to the TV is too high however (~3m), mounting on the TV is not an option. Neither is placing it behind the couch (which the mirroring option in the software allows), as the couch is placed directly against the wall.

This leaves an installation above the couch facing down as only possible option for me. In order to make that work, I'd have to remap the axis like this:

x => x
x-rot => x-rot (mirrored)
y => z
y-rot => z-rot (mirrored)
z => y
z-rot => y-rot (mirrored)

Below is a sloppy drawing of the chistmas tr... player with the right side showing how I'd like the axis to register for the overhead installation.

Is it already possible to configure the software like this? If not, would it be possible to implement remap options?

If you're in a game that supports remapping like ARMA 2 does, you COULD remap the TrackIR to those different Axis; so flip X & Y Axis. Have the clip mounted facing up like you say and have the camera right above you facing down. In the TrackIR software you could then rotate the camera 90 degrees. I think it would look funny, but I bet it'd work under such conditions.

Hello Burny,

As of right now there isn't an option for axis remapping. Though it is an interesting idea that I will send over to our dev team in a feature request. Thank you for the input on our device.

If! ;) I will use it for Elite Dangerous/Star Citizen/maybe Racing Sims. It's great if Arma offers the options (never played the Armas), but it would be a lot more elegant if the option was implemented in the TrackIR software, because it would work in all supported games without much individual configuration.

Thanks!

Can you tell me how such a feature request will be handled? E.g. if it's assessed and deemed worthy or not, would I know that (and when)? If it would indeed be implemented, what would be the expected timeframe? The last software release is three years old at this point.

Burny,

Right now I don't have a road map for feature requests. Our development team is exceptionally busy on multiple projects and I have no insight as to what they may choose or when it may be implemented.
