View Randomly Flips Backwards

Post by Mavs »

Hello! I purchased my Trackir 5 in August 2014 and have started to have an issue within the last day that my view will flip backwards randomly. Up until now I have had no issue. It happens in DCS World as well as X-Plane 10 (the only two games I use this hardware with).

The clip is in perfect condition (no tears/gouges/blemishes in the tape) and hasn't been taken off my hat since the first couple of weeks I purchased it.

I have made no recent changes to my hardware/software/drivers.

2600k @ 4.0
HD 5850 Driver Version 14.12
16gb Corsair Vengance
EVGA P67 FTW
Windows 7 64
Trackir 5 #235308
Trackir 5 Software: 5.2.200 Build 14548

Update: Literally the second I hit submit the hat clip stopped being recognized and the sensors in the software would turn red, hitting the recenter button seemed to bring it back, most of the time. All 3 of the sensors would either go red or only 1. No red blurbs on the camera box, just red sensors. They have never done this before and the problem seemed to happen more frequently now that the sensors have been going red.

I reinstalled the software and the issue persisted.

The light filter threshold was at about half and on a wim I turned it up to the maximum and it seems to have remedied the situation (?), only flew around for maybe an hour so I will continue to fly and test it. How would I know if this was my actual issue? What is the typical issue when too much light/not enough light is at the sensors? The problem would happen during the day and at night so the room atmosphere couldn't have been a problem, could it? I have been in the same room since I purchased it. The colors from my monitor are the same as they always have and I am not flying in an overly bright / dark place, just the same type of flying as always.

Mavs,

Reflections back into the sensor could cause this as well. With the light filter threshold set low, anything reflecting back into the camera could be read as a marker. If it shifts from the three markers on the TrackClip to, two markers and a new object it would cause it to flip around in any number of ways. I would need to see this happen to offer any other suggestions, but I think the light filter threshold is the best solution.

If it starts doing it again, please get a video of it for me if you can. That would be the most helpful tool int this situation.

I haven't used Track IR for a couple of years, since I stopped running Flight Sims. I just started again using Train Simulator 2015, and was having the same problem with the view occasionally flipping around to the ceiling, or elsewhere. When I looked at the camera view I saw that at times it was tracking 5 objects instead of 3, and I saw the three green dots but 2 red dots below it. I finally figured out it was tracking my eyeglass frames which are a shiny stainless steel color. I Googled the problem and finally found someone that had adjusted the light filter threshold to cure the same problem. I set mine all the way to the highest setting ( 250) and now it works perfectly, and I see the tracking is only tracking the 3 green objects.
