Virtual Noise in Camera, red lines in camera box in software

Post by Midnite27 »

Hello and thank you for your customer service. I have a TrackIR SN: 121453 and most of the time i experience the sensors not being recognized then the camera box in the software fills with red horizontal lines. I use to be able to remedy this somehow but now i cant. Any suggestions?

Midnite27,

It sounds to me like you are experiencing one of two possibilities. One, massive light interference, the solution would be to block any and all light sources or reflective surfaces. More likely Two, you are dealing with a failing camera. It is allowing all light into the camera and is not filtering anything out. Check your light filter threshold and see if increasing it helps your issue. Please let me know what the outcome is.

Seems a lot like my issue. What is the expected lifetime of the camera? I know you have a limited warranty of only a year. Yet i think you are also familiar with European law in this regards with expected lifetimes of consumer goods.

For the record, my c/n = 116059

Marcel,

We have many of our original cameras working both in office and out in the field. There is no direct estimated lifespan because the environment and amount of usage is different for each customer. Your device is nearing 6 years old, almost 5 years outside of our warranty. At this time, if it is your camera that is failing it would be up to you to purchase a replacement.

I've tested in varying light levels and problem persists. I have however noticed the problem twice recently and resolved it with different methods each time. 1 Cause was a box fan nearby, must have been EMI. The other is my Fanatec Steering Wheel Controller. When i turn the TrackIR5 software on after the wheel is already on sometimes i get the Noise and the camera wont work. I can turn the wheel off, restart the trackir software, and no red lines/noise.

Ive had this noise/red line problem for years, seems to be caused by different factors and is very fickle.

Midnite27,

I've never heard of a box fan causing interference via EMI. Though, I have had other peripherals interfere via electronic noise when plugged into the same USB hub. It could be that the cables are close enough to each other and the shielding in the cables isn't strong enough to block out the interference. Does it work better if you separate the cable from the TrackIR from the others?
