View Angle

Post by Reinhard »

Hi!

Took me several weeks to perceive that with IL-2 FB I've got a limitation in upside view. I only manage to look about 90 degrees up whereas I can turn my sight to the left or right in 180 degrees. In real life I manage to look up at an angle of about 100 to 110 degrees.

If I'm in dogfight I lose sight of the enemy quite often because of this view limitation. Increasing speed settings (edit points) doesn't solve the problem.

When I look at the Track-IR sender on my monitor I see that the dark plastic "sender window" is wider than high. Maybe that's the reason why Track-IR works better in the x than the y axis???

I noticed this as well.

I think the 90 degree up stop is an FB thing. You cannot look further than 90 degrees with your POV hat or the TIR. I normally climb into a loop at a rate where I can keep my eyes on the bandit above me. If not, then I will quickly transition from looking up to looking to one side. It works well once you get used to making that transition.

I've also noticed that I get better response from the X axis than I do the Y axis. What I did to fix this is to UNLINK the X and Y axis and adjust just the Y axis higher.

On the motions page, unclick the little blue thing that looks like a chain between the X and Y. Then highlight the Y radio button and then make your changes.

Works like a champ.

Thanks, Charlie!

Already tried this... only a little difficult for me, as I have to "remember" to move my had in another way on the y-axis than on the x-axis which sometimes is hard to do in the hectic of a dogfight. I personally get along better, when x and y have the same settings. Feels more natural for me...

As I said, thanks anyway!
