This is driving me nuts!!!!

Post by grover »

Once, and once only have I had TrackIR working in FS2002. But it stopped working and hasnt worked since. I have uninstalled and reinstalled FS2002 and TrackIR nearly 10 times this weekend to try and get it going, and as soon as I install the TrackIR DLL, the FS2002 traffic dll becomes corrupt (as in FS2002 thinks its a 3rd party dll and says it may cause a problem if loaded) and wont load, or if I choose not to load it, FS2002 crashes. I have wipped both TIR and FS2002 directories before each install and looked for rouge Reg files. Ive tried replacing the Traffic.dll with a backup copy and the same thing happens.

Can anyone please help?

I sorted out the traffic.dll problem, well by-passed it at least. My install of FS2002 seemed to want to pick up traffic.dll from my Windows/sustem32 folder after i removed all modules from my FS dir and tried to start with trackir.dll in only. This was a number of reinstalls ago that I did this (from instructions read here) but it was still causing the problem, only after I installed the trackir.dll. This suggests some registry thing, but I am at a loss to understand why installing the trackir.dll causes or activates it.

I have had it working twice but it seems to need a very paticular order of starting fs2002, then trackir in a certain way for it to work. I cant have a profile loaded in the trackir software and expect it will work which is very unfortunate. The normal enhanced mode movement is too sensitive for my likeing unfortunately.

Im going to try one final install of FS2002 and then trackir 2.01final, and if that doesnt work, I'll admit defeat and not use it in fs2002, which is very disapointing to say the least.

Well I finally have it working after much registry edits and making sure nothing else was installed or working with TIR before FS2002.
Im now working on motion changing which I'm happy to say is very easy. The big test will still be when I ad all my addons to the mix, including Active Camera.

Grover glad you got it working, and im glad I warned you off these troubles before you got your TIR unit, its happened to many FS2002 users with TIR and lots of 3rd party programs that place .dll files in the Modules folder. As for the Active Camera well I dont use it anymore as I only fly from the cockpit since TIR so let me know how you get on, also it may well be worth letting Jim/Halstead know what you found out.

I have to have active camera on. You know me and my screenshot fetish HD. Gotta have all those nice angles.

All the mosules so far work well with trackIR which is good news. I dont think its a good idea for WinXP and 2000 users to remove all the modules, leaving just the trackir.dll, as FS2002 tries to find them and in my case, found a traffic.dll in the windows/system32 folder, and even uninstaling wouldnt remove FS2002 wanting to grab that unrelated dll. The only way I found to get around this, until I removed every registry trace of FS2002, was to move the traffic.dll out of system32 while in safe mode. that still didn't do anything to help the TrackIR work though, it just let me run FS2002 again.

I think the TIR software was also fussy about how it saw FS2002. I also removed traces of TrackIR and naturalpoint from the registry before installing everything again. Starting with FS2002 which I ran once, then rebooted before installing 2.01final then rebooting, plugged in the TrackIR, ran the software, located FS2002, and whala, it worked. It even allowed me to use a profile including changing the default keys for the trackir software. I hope COF will be easier to get going
