ThanksNo problem. I've recently upgraded my CPU from an XP2100 (1.7ghz) to an XP2700 (2.1ghz), but for earlier performance specs, look here, which outlines CFS3 and IL2 (not FB)

http://www.asic.ca/download/MatroxWideview.html

For IL2FB, I am running at 1024x768x3, which is 3072x768 through three viewports (a Matrox option in IL2FB). I have objects and terrain at Excellent or High, and had to lower View Distance due to the impact of cities far off in the distance.

At this rate I get ~ 22-25FPS average in the FB Olegovo map when over a city. If I lower the res to 2400x600x3 it's even better but I prefer the higher res.

Overall, I went from a GF4 TI4600 to the Parhelia, and any way you slice it, there's a sacrifice of some FPS but the effect is more than well worth it.

As for other games, I play Ghost Recon fully "maxed" at 3072x768 and it's flawless.

If you're an framerate junkie, it may not be for you, but if you like excellent visual quality and play sims, it's unparalleled.

Dexmeister,

Funny the direction threads go.
Anyway, I am getting ready to build a new system in a few months because of all the new games coming out.
I was looking at the Parhelia and trying to compare to other cards.
What model do you have?
Do you have 128 or 256 memory on the card?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I am debating on whether it is worth having the capabilities of three monitors or a faster card.
Have you experimented with any 3D glasses?

Thanks
sanature

P.S. I am mainly into First Person Shooters and currently trying to see if I like flight sims.

Sorry to hijack the thread folks

Sanature, check out this page to see what games run on it, but keep in mind I've managed to get three monitors (albeit not proper "surround" mode) working for many more games than are listed there. IL2 before FB is one example, as is EAW, SOF2 and MOHAA.

http://www.matrox.com/mga/3d_gaming/surrgame.cfm

I have the 128 MB card and am not sure the 256's price is fair (over $1000 CDN).

Coming from a TI4600, I'm well aware of the advantages of a faster card, but in my opinion, if you can spend the $$ for the Parhelia and have the space for the monitors, it's a really exceptional treat for simming and also for FPS games. I also use my monitors for work and it's enhanced my productivity greatly.

3D Glasses? Done it. Don't recommend it. They're fantastic IF they work, but every time you upgrade drivers they mess up. They're only for Nvidia cards, and the 41 and beyond Detonators have really shabby support for 3D. You need a bunch of hotkeys to get the convergence and depth tweaked properly, and then if you launch something else you usually have to retweak that again too... Painful.

IL2 for me froze in 3D if I used the map or padlock. CFS3 displayed messed up walls of textures in the air. Spare yourself the trouble, trust me, because even if you get them working they'll probably give you a headache and if not prolonged use will tire you of the heavy glasses.

Folks say that they don't like the space between monitors in tripleview. I don't even notice it anymore. What I'm looking at is a life-sized cockpit, and with TIR, I turn my head and look over the wing and the feeling is awesome. Flying FS2002 into the Grand Canyon in a Stearman, I actually felt my stomach turning.

The Parhelia won't give you the same FPS as a Radeon 9700, but the tradeoff is more than acceptable IMO.

Tip: Buy monitors used. I saved a lot of money that way and ended up with 3 21"s all the same model from a local shop at prices less than a 17 costs new.

Thanks Dexmeister!!

Thats the info I was looking for.
Yes, I have found the 3D glasses to be very touchy.
I mainly play SWAT3 and have them optimized for it and they work well.
But I do not use them for any other games, too much hassle.
Maybe someday if game developers design with them then in mind then it will work.

Do you think that the additional memory of the 256 would give you any significant performance gain?
Yes it is very pricey right now for some reason.

Thanks again,
sanature

Personally, I'd opt for a better CPU if you're going to spend the extra $ anywhere. I think performance gain will come through that and drivers in the near future but the 256 I'm not sure about....

I agree that the 360 view is an advantage in FB. I, too like it, and hope that it gets implemented into FB for non-TIR users.

I don't have the TIR yet, but I've watched those tracks with the Linda Blair view, and it is way better than what you can do with normal pan and snapview.

They have released the fix - this is a great move.

Now - if sometime in FB they allow EVERYONE a 6 view, they can reenable it.

I hope as well that FB will disable the ability from pre-2.01 patches to keep people from trying to exploit the game.

Man, you still need to fly the plane, and besides, if you've got it set to easily show six from looking through your legs, you're probably going to end up with your head stuck in a funny place anyways, thus negating the need for trackIR or FB.

Just kidding. FB looking for 2.01b is ridiculous. Oleg wouldn't waste a second on that modification.

As I said in the IL-2 Forum, Np has always done thier best to do as much as they can to make everyone happy. Then they turn and lock down the view for 2.01 without any option. So those of us who like the view, cheater or not, cant use it.

So, looks like I am done upgrading my TIR software until they release a second version of 2.01 for those of us who like our cheats.
