NFS:MW Fully Unofficially Supports TrackIR!!

Post by MaXThReAT »

So I've been fiddling with NFS:MW since I got the TrackIR to see if I could get it to work. I was working on modifying the game but I found this nice little cam hack tool. Need For Speed Most Wanted Camera Hack v1.0
www.toca.game-editing.net

It's listed about half way down the page. What this tool lets you do is position the camera at any point around the car, full 360. Up 40 feet above the car or down...say right in the cockpit, with mouse look. The game has fully modeled interiors. It works marvelously, with the mouse emulator. Hands don't move but o-well.

You just start up the TrackIR software and mouse emulation. In my profile I turned the acceleration curve down to 2 for the full curve, the sensitivity is very high in the game. Start the camhack tool and game. Hop in a car, hit * key to turn on the hack. Select your view, each of the standard views now have views 1-9, so you use the in game camera button to change the main 4 views, then 1-9 for the more custom views. #7 will get you the best in-car view. I center the tracker and pull the cursor off the screen with my mouse, hit zero on the keypad to turn on mouse look and your good to go. You could also use TrackMapper for at least 5DOF but it would be limited. You'll see what I mean if you try it, the camhack maps the camera controls to the keypad, it's hard to control.

I'm going to contact the maker of the tool and see if he could modify his tool to add the tracker axis to the list of command maps. NaturalPoint should also get a hold of this guy to help make a profile or anyone ells thats so inclined. There are some great cars in the game with fully modeled cockpits. They also have a camhack tool for Race Driver 3, I haven't even got a chance to look at it yet. I'm going back to mess around some more. Send this man a free TrackIR and put him to work.

On a side note also check out www.panogames.com they have some great 360 panoscreens. Basically 360 screenshots. I'm also trying to get the TrackIR to work so I can look around in those, no luck so far.

Great post and nice input

But...I tried the demos of NFS MW and Race Driver 3. As I had both predecessors, I just wanted to check the quality of their cockpit views. This is my impression:
Both game series are getting worse.
Handling is 100% arcade in NFS MW and Race Driver 3 feels much too "indirect" somehow synthetic.
I also tried the camhack with the predecessors (which i owned before selling them again in frustation) to get at least a minimum cockpit impression.
IMO the cockpits are so lousy designed with few details and bad textures, that I concluded: Not worth trying any further with camhack, nor worth buying the follow ups.

IMO cockpits have to look like those in GTR, GTL and TDU.

Hey Bran, yeah the cockpits are very low quality in MW & both game series are definitely getting worse. I still find NFS a fun game and adding the TrackIR just makes it that much more fun. I like being able to look around in real time while in the slo-mo speed breaker. I was cruising last night and went flying through a packed intersection, hit the slo-mo and watched every side as I slipped thorough. The dash isn't the best, very low res textures.

I made a video I just need some space to upload it to. I'm limited to 25MB files. I still haven't tested the Race Driver 3 hack. I hated the AI in that game and the cars handling never felt real, but I still enjoy just driving the tracks.
