* Uninstalled TrackIR
* Uninstalled NaturalPoint drivers
* NOTE: There is no NaturalPoint dir under Program Files (x86) (or under Program Files, Windows 11)
* Renamed APPDATA folder
* Renamed regedit folder
* Rebooted
* Ran installer as Admin

If you run the installer and use the repair, are you still not seeing the correct folder? I'm going to pass this along to the developer who just started on TrackIR and see if he has more questions that will help us narrow this down.

Not sure what 'Repair' you speak of.

I am using TrackIR_5.5.1.exe. When executed, the first screen is the agreement screen. There is an 'Options' that gives me the opportunity to target a non-standard install directory. The second screen is the failure.

I see no 'Repair' anywhere.

Am I supposed to be using a different version?

Maybe 5.5.1 needs to be marked as beta, because 5.4.2 works just fine.

Thank you blackrooksix for your more detailed presentation of the problem I share with 5.5.!!!

I posted on it without the log. Only difference in our experience is I was unable to uninstall 5.4.2 from control panel. I did a registry clean out from experience. I found your post and tried again following the post you referenced and still had the same result. 5.5 won't install because installer insists prior version exists even though a registry search can find 0 keys or references to TrackIR or Natural Point. As you point out, there is no "repair", override, or other option in the installer except location. I tried installing to an alternate location as well, with same result.

Since 5.4.2 works, I'll reinstall and ignore new releases until there is a specific solution to this error provided. I like to keep my software current, but this is a no win situation. At least 5.4.2 still works!

Hi everyone,

We recently released version 5.5.2. This should have fixed some issues with how the 5.5.0 or 5.5.1 installers failed to update certain files. However, if just installing 5.5.2 still does not solve the issue then please try the following steps:

1) Save a copy of this TrackIR 5 folder to some other folder in file explorer: "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5"

2) Now, delete the TrackIR 5 folder inside of AppData.

3) Then, if you haven't installed 5.5.2 yet go ahead and install 5.5.2. If 5.5.2 is already installed then re-install or run a repair install for TrackIR 5.5.2. This will rebuild the AppData folder and rebuild any necessary files for running TIR successfully with games.

***Note, the repair install is an option when you run the installer for an already installed version of TrackIR. Fore example, if you run the installer for 5.5.2 while 5.5.2 is already installed, then you will be given the option to 'repair' or 'uninstall' TrackIR 5.5.2

4) Launch TIR and initiate the "Games List Update" which will prompt you to relaunch TIR.

Please let us know if this solves the issue with running TIR.

Note, 'Step 1)' is intended to back up any custom settings you may have applied which are part of these files:
"C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5\Profiles"
"C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5\ProfileMap.dat"
"C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5\Settings.xml"

If there are any custom settings you want to retain like profiles, camera settings, or profile-to-title settings then you will want to replace the default files with your custom files in those paths in AppData. Please let us know if you have additional questions or concerns about any of this.

I'm having what appear to be the same issue. Tried to install 5.3.3 but can't. I uninstalled the old trackir 5.2.2 and I uninstalled the naturalpoint drivers. Also I removed the trackir folder in appdata/local, nothing has worked.

The 5.3.3 installer continue to insist than an existing install is already there. I can only assume some registry setting or similar is broken.

The log file doesn't tell me anything but happy to share it if it helps.

Thanks for confirming the issue is still occurring. I spoke with another TIR support person and they said they've seen the 0x80070666 error before. The error code 0x80070666 typically occurs when installing the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package. This error usually means that another version of the Visual C++ package is already installed on your system, causing a conflict. They had a user with a similar issue unable to install until removing the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package. Can you try uninstalling your current MVSR package and then run the installer again? The installer should download the latest version.

It's frustrating that the installer insists on the prior version existing, despite no registry keys or references to TrackIR or Natural Point. It seems like a perplexing situation with no repair or override options in the installer. Hopefully, a solution will be found soon so that you can enjoy the benefits of version 5.5.

Are you getting this same 0x80070666 error? If so, this is likely related to the current Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables (MVCR) installation on the PC. Did you try my above suggestions, but it still is giving you that error?

Our developers are looking to see if there is some solution to address this issue in the TrackIR installer. For now, it will help if we can confirm with anyone if the issue is solvable by uninstalling the current version of MVCR on the PC and install the latest version from Microsoft.

The latest 2015-2022 MVCR x64 installer package can be downloaded from the Microsoft website here:
