Well, as perhaps already told before, I made a full clean (registry and all the related files/folders) uninstall of 5.4.2 before trying to install the new version.
And I always follow carefully your instructions when doing it, it's years that I'm using your hardware and software - this told not to start a fight with you, who are kindly attempting to help me in solving my problems, but just to reassure you that I have a little experience in doing such kind of matters right.
This premitted, I attempted to revert my PC to a previous point of installation with a System Restore - no joy at all. All is at the same point.
What should I try next, then?

Do you have any antivirus or other software that may be blocking the installation? Have you tried running the Installer with Administrator privileges? It may be helpful to start a case with us using our contact form so that we can more easily share screenshots to help understand what you are seeing.
