Track IR 5.5 dont open

Hello everyone.
After I have installed version 5.5.3, the programme can no longer be opened. If you try to open it again, it says that the programme is already running. The programme is also running in the task manager but there is no window visible. the device is a TrackIR5 #496907. the 5.4.2 version runs without any problems. Perhaps someone can help me.

Thanks for reaching out.

Can you try the following steps:

1) Save a copy of this TrackIR 5 folder to some other folder in file explorer: "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5"

2) Now, delete the TrackIR 5 folder inside of AppData.

3) Then, if you haven't installed 5.5.3 yet go ahead and install 5.5.3. If 5.5.3 is already installed then re-install or run a repair install for TrackIR 5.5.3. This will rebuild the AppData folder and rebuild any necessary files for running TIR successfully with games.

***Note, the repair install is an option when you run the installer for an already installed version of TrackIR. Fore example, if you run the installer for 5.5.3 while 5.5.3 is already installed, then you will be given the option to 'repair' or 'uninstall' TrackIR 5.5.3

4) Launch TIR and initiate the "Games List Update" which will prompt you to relaunch TIR.

Please let us know if this solves the issue with running TIR 5.5.3.

Note, 'Step 1)' is intended to back up any custom settings you may have applied which are part of these files:
"C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5\Profiles"
"C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5\ProfileMap.dat"
"C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5\Settings.xml"

If there are any custom settings you want to retain like profiles, camera settings, or profile-to-title settings then you will want to replace the default files with your custom files in those paths in AppData. Please let us know if you have additional questions or concerns about any of this.

I'm having the same issue after updating to 5.5.3 Tried rolling back to 5.5.2 and 5.5.1 and they won't run either. TrackIR screen never appears nor is it running "Minimized" in hidden items of Task Bar. Tried the repair option, but get a screen saying TrackIR is already running. Forced it closed from Task Manager. Then -

Moved Natural Point folder out of App Data.
Ran CCleaner to remove items for "Registry"
Ran TrackIR 5.5.3 Repair from "Installed Apps" in Windows 11
Says it was repaired successfully
Run TrackIR (both as "Administrator" and not)
TrackIR screen never opens nor does it show minimized in hidden folder on Task Bar.
Checked App Data Roaming Folder - "Repair" did NOT create a new "Natural Point" folder or it's sub-folders.

Out of airspeed, altitude, and ideas. Need some help here.

Just to confirm, have you verified that it is not in the system tray as well as not in the taskbar? Can you check what settings you have in this file?

C:\Users\[your.username]\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5\Settings.xml

Specifically I am curious about these settings:

<RunAtStartup>0</RunAtStartup>
<RunMinimized>0</RunMinimized>
<MinimizeToTray>0</MinimizeToTray>
<AutoMinimize>1</AutoMinimize>

What version of C++ Redistributables do you currently have installed? We recommend using this one with the newer versions of TrackIR: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/w ... w=msvc-170.

Sorry, I did not see your reply earlier. I installed the C++ version from the link provided, and moved the Natural Point folder out of the appdata/roaming folder to a backup location.

I understand this software version does not support TrackIR 4, so I bought a new TrackIR 5 (according to the label on the box). I can't find anything on the sensor unit that shows what version (4 or 5) the hardware is. Tag on the USB Plug has "531817" and a bar code.

Ran 5.5.3 install. The initial installation screen opened and I checked the approval box then install. While it appears to run, no other install screens appear. It creates a desktop shortcut. Ran the desktop shortcut as administrator. Appears to do something (cursor changes to rotating circle) but the program does not launch. Checked the hidden apps folder in the task bar but it's not running minimized there either. Task manager shows TrackIR 32 running but there's nothing anywhere on the screen. If I try to run the program from the shortcut again, it says it's already running. Just no application window. The installation did NOT create a new user/appdata/roaming/naturalpoint folder, so I cannot get the info you requested.

I've reverted back to 5.4.2 twice and it works every time. The install shows the progress screen and the main application window opens normally.

Opened a support ticket via email today. Here's the info I provided. No response so far.

- Running Windows 11.

- Moved "Natural Point" folder in "User/AppData/Roaming" to another folder.

- Uninstalled previous version of TrackIR

- Used CCleaner to remove TrackIR registry entries

- Restarted computer and reinstalled 5.5.3

- Same result - no indication the software is actually installing.

Task Manager shows TrackIR running, but there's nothing on the screen or in the hidden items folder in the task bar.

The Natural Point Folder in "AppData/Roaming" was NOT created.

Uninstalled again and reverted to version 5.4.2 it works.

Have you tried running the installer twice - once to install the software and then a second time to repair it? This may replace any missing DLLs.

It's only in the Task Manager but cant open it at all

On Application Options, uncheck box "Automatically Minimize On Game Launch"

Hello Spix_W,

Have you tried Adisan's solution of unchecking Automatically Minimize On Game Launch? This option may be the source of the issue if you are seeing the TrackIR software only in the system tray or taskbar. You may be able to change this behavior by updating Settings.xml (located here: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5) as follows:

<RunMinimized>0</RunMinimized>
<MinimizeToTray>0</MinimizeToTray>
<AutoMinimize>0</AutoMinimize>

If you are running a multi-screen system, you may also need to adjust the Window position settings in Settings.xml to allow the TrackIR software to open in the correct place.
