Natural Point cameras

Post by kcarl »

Hi,

Can you tell me what differences are between the different NaturalPoint cameras when used for active marker IR tracking? I would like to use some camera for active marker IR tracking, and I've read in the Camera SDK that it supports cameras more affordable compared to V120:SLIM.

Hi Karl,

Great question. All of our Ethernet-based cameras support Active Marker tracking with our Active Tags and BaseStation. The main difference is that our Slim cameras only support Active marker tracking because they don’t include an IR ring light. The IR ring light is what enables a camera to track passive reflective markers.

Aside from that, the Slim models have the same core specs as their Prime counterparts. For example, the SlimX13 is identical to the PrimeX13 in performance, except that it lacks the IR ring for passive tracking. The same applies to the SlimX120 and PrimeX120.

Because the Slim cameras don’t include the IR ring light, they’re a bit more affordable. If your project only involves active markers and doesn’t require passive tracking, the Slim cameras would likely be a good fit.

More information about passive/active tracking can be found here:
Active Marker Tracking: https://docs.optitrack.com/active-compo ... r-tracking
Passive Marker Tracking: https://docs.optitrack.com/motive/marke ... ve-markers

Information about the different camera types can be found on our website here:

Please note, our USB based cameras do not support Active marker tracking because they do not work with the Active BaseStation.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if any of this is still unclear or if you have any further questions.
