A couple of questions

Post by pkells »

New user here. I have 3 V100 cameras confined to a small space (about 4ft by 4ft total) and am wanting to fix some small dots ~3mm to a rat for my research at a university (completely humane). I Just had a couple simple questions:

1. For the time being I'm using a white latex glove with dots super glued to it. The problem is that no matter how I adjust the camera settings (I've just been messing with exposure and threshold) the glove will always appear with the dots, I'm worried that the same thing will happen with the rat. Is there any way to have the software track ONLY the dots or somehow fix the camera settings such that the glove doesn't appear?

2. Right now I have all three cameras positioned in roughly an equilateral triangle to try and capture the volume which is about 1 ft^3. Would 3 cameras be sufficient for tracking a 3D object or does more than one camera need to see a single dot in order for it to be tracked? I was thinking of putting a camera above the volume as well.

3. I would like to position a camera beneath the rat (or above) but the clear plexiglass where the rat will be reflects the image of the camera back to itself. Would there be any way to remedy this?

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks!

1. Intensity is the likely culprit here. High intensity values (and the default is the highest, strobed 15) can cause reflection off of a lot of non marker surfaces. For a small volume, it should be set to continuous instead of strobed, and the value should be dropped low enough that it does not reflect off of other objects, just markers.

2. A minimum of 2 cameras need to see any given point to recreate it. Cameras should be positioned so that there is appropriate coverage.

3. This is pretty difficult. You could potentially cut the plexi out and put the camera through a hole. Otherwise you may have to modify the plexiglass to put something in place to prevent the IR light from bleeding across into the lens space (cut a hole for the lens, paint the sides of the hole opaque, shave and polish the plug so the lens fits somewhat inside the hole, then replace the plug and place the camera (or something like this).
