TrackIR in racing sims?

Post by TailFlamer »

Is it possible to use TrackIR in F12002 and GP-4 to look left and right? I know neither of these sims support mouse look, but I would like to be able to use it to look to either side of me while driving.

Any suggestions for getting this to work?

Thanks.

Hello:

The best suggestion we can give for now is to try KeyMapping. It has worked on some systems, mainly Win2K, but others have had problems. The idea is to map the view pad keystrokes to different head positions.

Thanks Jim.

I have tried that, but I couldn't get it to work that way. I may mess with it some more though. I may have been doing something wrong the first time I tried it.

I really think it should be possible to edit the game (F12002) so that the view works with the mouse. The game is very open ended, but I lack to skills to do this. I am trying to contact some people that make mods for the game, in hopes that they might know a way to do this.

GP-4 could probably be made to do the same. There is a 'camera editor' for it, but it will not let me set the camera to the mouse.

The system for looking left and right in racing sims is way behind the times, IMO. F1 has the ability to have the view turn with the steering, but this isn't as good as TrackIR would be. It is far better than trying to use buttons while driving as fast as you can go, but is still a far cry from what TIR would be.

The more I use TIR in flight sims, the more I wish I could in racing sims too. It has almost gotten to the point where I don't want to even play racing games much anymore, because of the view restrictions in them. It is as if I NEED TIR in them, and without it I am missing something.

TIR has become so important to my flying a sim, that I haven't bought CFS-3, because it doesn't have mouse look or TIR support. Silly reason maybe, but it really has become that important to me. I never, repeat NEVER turn TIR off in IL-2 or FS2002. It is on from start up to shut down. I can't imagine flying without it.

I know that it would be as useful in a racing sim as it is a flight sim. I am loosing the 'immersion' I once had in racing games, because all I can think about is "well, if I could use TIR I could have seen that car trying to pass me on the braking zone". Now to really see it I must hit the 'Replay' key. That was all cool before I had TIR, now I hate it because I KNOW how much better it could be!

For racing sims all is not lost GPL has basic support for Track Ir and you can find this info here http://home.worldonline.dk/7471000/

Also Live For Speed is going to support Track Ir some time within the new year, I did some lobbying over there and Jim also contacted the dev team and they liked what they saw, so all is not lost.

I understand that West 'Racing Legends' will have mouse look. They told me that they have not tried TrackIR, but it should work. Here is their site, should you wish to contact them.

I'm glad to see devs starting to do this.
