TrackIR 5 and ATI Catalyst
TrackIR 5 and ATI Catalyst
Hi All,
I just wanted to add my name to the list of people who cannot run the latest final TrackIR 5 software with the newer Catalyst Drivers (12.10).
When using 12.10, TrackIR 5 is visible in the task manager, consuming about 13% of the CPU, however, the main TrackIR window never shows and no icon appears in the system tray.
Downgrading my ATI Catalyst drivers to 12.6 solves the problem, but I wanted to report this so that hopefully it can be fixed. I'd like to update my drivers at some point!
I'm running Windows 7 64 Professional with twin HD 5800 series cards in CrossFire on a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R motherboard.
Cheers
Mark

Re: TrackIR 5 and ATI Catalyst
You may try various combinations of Triple Buffering and Vsync, some tests I have done here have gotten it to get past ATIs issues with OpenGL.
Re: TrackIR 5 and ATI Catalyst
Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the reply. Triple buffering was turned off during all of my tests and vertical refresh was set to "always off", although I will admit that I didn't check the vertical sync settings every time (the default is always off so I assumed it would have been set to that value).
I'm always happy to test beta versions of the software if you need any help trying to track down this issue.
Cheers

Re: TrackIR 5 and ATI Catalyst
Hello
I have the same problem with the TrackIR 5 in conjunction with ATI HD 6950.
All discussed solutions are failed, so that I have to downgrade to 12.6.
My performance is Win 7 64 - ATI 6950 driver 12.6 and TrackIR driver 5.0
It would be wonderful if I could participate in the future in the ATI improvements.
Thanks a lot for any solution.
Cheers

Hi guys, beta versions are tested in house for a short period then are typically posted to the website. I don't have an ETA for when the beta will be available though.

Hi Jeff,
thanks a lot for your answer.
We are a big German Falcon community and would like to invest in ATI eyefinity but at the moment the TrackIR generates a bottle neck for high end performance.
But I will spread your news that NaturalPoint will solve the TrackIR problem with the next beta version.
Each ATI user needs the progress of ATI drivers for eyefinity!
Cheers

Re: TrackIR 5 and ATI Catalyst
Hi Free,
Just to clarify: there isn't a beta in the works to address the AMD driver issue. Jeff's comment was intended to communicate that, in general, there is a short internal beta phase before we release it to the public for testing--this in response to Mark's offer to participate in a beta program.
Unfortunately, regarding the AMD bug, the fundamental problem appears to be with AMD's support of the OpenGL API, which the TrackIR software was developed with. Other apps developed with OGL report similar performance issues.
Short of rewriting our application with Direct3D instead of OpenGL, there doesn't appear to be an immediate fix for AMD users. If they were able to stabilize their driver-level support for OGL, that should fix this issue with the TrackIR software and all other OGL applications.
We've looked for, and in some cases identified, superficial workarounds within the AMD driver configuration (like turning off triple-buffering) that have seemed to help some users. But, once we're in this kind of territory, we're at a place where we're trying to help users find ways around AMD's problems with OGL--something that's a bit outside of our expertise, as the issue seems to be located within AMD code.

Re: TrackIR 5 and ATI Catalyst
Can somebody put this thread Other Thread to this one?
I am also one of the guys having a worthless TrackIR hardware
Using a older driver is a option for older systems, but not for new hardware. By spending a lot of money to a good running system and then one of the most important systems for flight simulators is running out of function i can't hide some frustrations.
Hope that there will be a soloution in the near future...

Re: TrackIR 5 and ATI Catalyst
Hi,
i had also problems with TrackIR5. After a update of my Displaylink driver TIR dont work anymore... I update to the newest TrackIR 5.2 and the newest ATI CCC 12.10. TIR doesnt work until i downgrade my Displaylink to oldest available DL 5.6.
All available TIR 5 Version dont work with CCC12.08 or 12.10 and newer Displaylink Software then 5.6.
Now everything works fine.
My current System:
Win7 64bit, Sapphire HD6950, ATI CCC12.10, TIR 5.2, DL 5.6
But one more problem. The last year i had sometimes blue screens.
It seems to be the reason is the Displaylink, but i cant update because TIR dont work with the newer DL Versions.
I hope Natural Points will solve the Problems!
thx

Re: TrackIR 5 and ATI Catalyst
Well I'm glad I came here first before ordering. I've been waiting to by the track IR for some time, reason being mostly the cost.. I've recently built a new system for eyefinity. And wanted to finally add track ir and now I read about this.
I won't be spening another $180 for track IR until I know it will work. I don't care who's fault it is.. whether track IR needs to rewrite the code for Direct3d or work with ATI to get things working correctly.
I'll be watching to see if and when natual point can get it done.
