TrackIR 2 locks up in FB + AEP + PF

Post by Xnomad »

When I originally bought Pacific Fighters and installed it on top of FB and AEP I noticed that my TrackIR 2 crashed a lot. Then when I turned down my hardware acceleration for sound in dxdiag it stopped.

I have been using TrackIR and TrackIR 2 for a long time already with no trouble.

After a few patches I found that I could return the hardware acceleration back to full.

A few months down the line and now the lock ups are happening again.

Bascially what happens is the TrackIR lights go out for a brief second and come back on. I am then unable to move the view and when I quit FB the game crashes and I have to kill it in the task manager. TrackIR crashes as well and I have to reboot in order to turn the hardware off. I am not able to kill the executable in the task manager either.

It can happen whilst a Quick mission is loading in the first minute of a quick mission or after a few mintues, for instance during a second quick mission. It occurs fairly quickly which makes playing almost impossible as I need to reboot to sort out the problem.

I strongly believe that this is a software failure as this doesn't happen in FS 2004. I have reinstalled Windows XP reinstalled the TrackIR software and updated all drivers for sound, video and chipsets.

I've tried bringing down hardware acceleration for sound again.

My system is as follows:

AMD Athlon 3000+
GA 7vax Gigabyte Motherboard VIA KT 400
1024 MB DDR
ATi Radeon 9800 Pro w/ Arctic Silencer Fan
Audigy Player
40 GB HD 7500 RPM
20 GB HD 5500 RPM
Leadtek Winfast TV expert 2000 tv card
Netcomm (Lucent/Augere) winmodem

The peripherals I am using are all usb and are:
CH Pro Throttle
MS FFB 2 Joystick
Track IR 2
MS Intellimouse optical mouse
I use CH Control manager to manage my controls. I have tried without this and only used my joystick and TrackIR and it still crashed.

I have swapped around the TrackIR in my usb ports I have a total of 6 leading from the motherboard so I dont' use a hub.

I dont' think this is a power supply issue as it doesn't happen in other games e.g. MS FS2004

There are no logs on my system that indicate the source of the problem either.

It just appears that something in the game is making TrackIR crash, sometimes I thought it could be mouse movement that confuses the TrackIR but I don't think that is the case as I have tried to not move the mouse whilst playing.

I can't think of what I have done that has brought the crashes back. I have tired older Catalyst drivers for my GFX card but that hasn't helped. I'm constantly updating my PC however as mentioned I did a clean reinstall of windows last week and it's not done anything to fix this problem.

Any ideas?

Well it's been working ok now for two days. I've fiddled about so much that I don't know what's fixed it.

I've disabled unused ports in the CMOS, killed services in XP that I don't use. Got the latest drivers for chipset and audigy and underclocked my GFX card (it wasn't overclocked to begin with) so it's one of those that fixed it but I don't know which one. Also I have only been playing multiplayer and not QMB so I haven't checked if QMB is still crashing.
