TrackIR 5 and Clip Pro plugged into different sources

Post by Be4st »

I have a question someone a little more familiar with the TrackIR may be able to answer.

I want to know if it is safe to have my TrackIR unit plugged into the USB2/3 hub on my monitor and have the Clip Pro plugged into my tower separately. I tried this already for 5 minutes and it worked but my unit got hotter than it usually does. Either that or it didn't like being plugged into the hub on my monitor.

I ask this because I have my monitor suspended on a cantilever wall bracket so that is slides out in front of me and my tower is on the floor next to my recliner. I would rather not have trailing wires as I have a cat (enough said). Currently I am forced to pack away my TrackIR after each use in fear that she will destroy it like the 10+ phone charger cables I have gone through.

I did see a post on how to make the TrackIR wireless but I am both too impatient and far too lazy to accomplish this within the next 5 years. Lol.

Be4st,

There should be no issue separating the two. I have mine in completely different places because my setup doesn't allow me to have them to be in the same spot. The USB ports on the monitors may be putting out different power than the ports on your PC. Though I haven't heard of this being an issue in the past.

Is it a large change in temperature during the operation of the device?

Ah OK. The temperature was on the high end. I don't remember feeling it that hot before. If I had to guess, I would have said it was around the 50/60'C mark.

This was real easy to set up.
A USB battery pack from Ebay,an elastic band or two. Job done and the battery life of the USB is huge for the little power the LEDs need

Be4st,

Hmm, I'm not sure what would be causing it to heat up in a different location aside from ventilation maybe. Though, it should be fine.
