Calculating angles in motive

Post by Cimi »

Hello,
I am trying to figure out how to calculate the angle between three points in Motive.
It seems like joint angle recorder could be useful for this but it isn't working. Also, under information, there is a four marker angle function but I don't exactly understand what angle this is measuring. I know I can just use dot products but I am looking for an easier way :) .

Thanks.

Hello Cimi,

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your question.

Motive is able to display the angle formed by three markers, but this data cannot be recorded or exported from Motive.
First, enable the Three Marker Angle display feature under the visual aids. With this feature enabled, select three markers. The respective angle (in degrees) will be measured and displayed over the 3D viewport. Note that the selection order will determine the vertex point when measuring the angle.

The joint angle recorder is an old feature that was used to record skeleton joint angles when performing body capture; it will not give you what you are asking for. This is an antiquated tool that we may slowly phase out of Motive.

I hope you find this information to be useful. If you require any further assistance, please reach out to us at help.naturalpoint.com

Best,
Steven
