Clay-
how far away from the trackIR are you? For optimal results, you should really be within 2 feet (a bit more than 1/2 a meter).

Clayp,

Go to the tracking tab and make sure there's a yellow dot surrounded by a green box that shows the unit is tracking your reflectors. The yellow dot should be roughly in the center of the screen. If not, adjust the position of the tIR unit. On this screen, when your head turns left, the yellow dot should move right. Up and down should also be reversed. Make sure that there are no bright lamps or sunny windows directly behind you that the unit could be tracking instead of your reflector. You could also try taking your reflector-tipped pencil in hand and just hold it up in front of the tracking unit, at least 8-10 in. away to test it. I've had good luck with one reflector stuck on the head of a thumbtack (the kind with a slightly convex surface, not flat or concave), and then stuck into the edge of the brim of a ball cap. The convex surface seems to help it track a little further to the sides. Check on the tracking screen; when the dot is at too oblique on angle, the green box surrounding it will turn red, indicating that it can't track it well enough. I think the ideal reflector would be a hemisphere covered with reflective material. Anyhow, this has worked well for me so far. If you don't like wearing a cap, stick the thumb tack onto the end of a stick of say, 1/8" wood dowel, available from your local hobby shop. This can be easily taped/glued/stuck onto the top of your headphones. You can adjust the length of the stick to adjust the sensitivity of tracking. Longer is more sensitive, shorter is less so. Make the stick so you can slide it fore and aft to find the ideal position.
